My husbands grandmother passed away a few weeks ago
Being the only reliatives in this country I have been sorting through her paraphanalia (sp??) and I came across an old photograph come piece of art. I say piece of art because some of the image is raised much like paint is - i don't know very much about how old photographs were processed ![]() My father in law says that it could be his grandfather, but I would just like some help to narrow this down a bit of anyone can help please |

Hi Humbug;
Here are some links that may help you out. My guess would be late 1880's to early 1900. You say parts of this photo feels raised. I bet it's the window in the background. This photo looks like it's been embossed and colourised. ![]() Looking at the photo it's definately taken before 1902. I'd think it would be around the late 1880's - 1890's. Like you I'm not to good at validating dates of photographs. But comparing my grandfather's photo taken in 1904 to your's I would say that your photo possibly could have been taken perhaps Mid 1890's. ![]() Hey any prizes for guessing the date ![]() Nice photo by the way ![]() |

![]() those links were good - i had no idea photos were painted over!! i should add that the photo is cardboard it does then fit in with in being my father in laws grandfather and as he passed away when nanna was young it would explain her keeping it i am now wondering why it was ripped, and who were the people standing by him!!! the questions never stop do they!!! ![]() |
