Hi Julia, firstly welcome to Ancestry Aid,

I cannot find a marriage between Fred and Mary, I have tried searching using Fred, Frederick and Alfred. Also tried no first names just Greenough and Stafford but there's no result. Could they have married abroad, or in Scotland.

I have found birth registrations for 2 children

Bernard Greenhough, Sept qrt 1914, Leyburn 9d/1385, MMN Stafford
Doreen M Greenhough, Sept qrt 1825, North Bierley, 9b/41 MMN Stafford

Must go to bed Julia. I'll take a look at your query tomorrow, maybe another member will be able to add something between now and then.

Any idea of Mary's birth year?

Just before I go, I found these puzzling records.

Elizabeth M Greenhough registered Mar qrt 1817, Leyburn 9d/1017, MMN HANCOCK (there's no Elizabeth Greenhough birth with MMN Stafford)

And this marriage....... Fred Greenhough spouse name Mary A HANDCOCK, Jan qrt 1914, Chester le Street Durham, 10a/889? not clear

We need to work out why Mary appears to have been known by both Stafford and Han(d)cock, it could be she was married previously

    Hi Julia,

OK, so what I found is correct. Just so I don't go off looking for info you already have please can you say what info you are looking for? Is it the ancestry of Mary and Fred?

I would like to know the name of mary's first husband because of my uncles, but really would like to trace Mary and fred's parents and grandparents - my mum is the last living daughter of the five and it would be nice to give her more family background. I can't thank you enough for you help. Love julia
