    Default The Yorkshire Migration

I'm not sure if this is in the right place but if not no doubt it will be moved to a more suitable thread.

I have a newspaper cutting of unknown provenance which lists the passengers of two ships which sailed from Hull to Fort Cumberland.

"On March 14th 1774 the ship ALBION sailed from Hull England to Fort Cumberland. This ship carried the first Yorkshire settlers to come to this area."

"One year later on April 6th 1775 the ship JENNY sailed from the same port to Fort Cumberland."

Names, occupations and in some cases the names of children are given and I would be more than happy to check any names.

It is also noted that there had been an earlier immigration of Yorkshire folk to Nova Scotia in 1772 but no other detailsare given.

That does look to be a most fascinating book and would be of great interest to anyone whose family was amongst the immigrants. I am not sure now how I came to have this document as I have no personal interest. It turned up a day or two ago when I was looking for something else in an old file, and I thought it might be of interest.

In the ALBION list are mentioned two William PIPES, a farmer and a husbandman and there could well be 188 names although I have not counted them. It would appear though that my list for the JENNY is not complete as there are far fewer names and William PIPES and his children are not amongst them.

Thank you, Elsa for adding to my knowledge. It is interesting to note that the voyage of the JENNY lasted from April 6th to May 21 - a very long time to be aboard ship.

    ISTG - Jenny

Shows the list of passengers going to Novia Scotia on Jenny in 1775. It gives bits of info such as "going to seek a better livelihood"

Another fascinating document, Rubina, and from your list it would appear that MY list is complete - the last two names are Sarah and Mary Fenton. Must have been a much smaller ship.

I'm so pleased I posted this as I am learning something new all the time.
