Is the information you have taken from the 1881 census? If it is I am sorry to have bothered you because I have access to the 1881 census. I have an extensive Gray family living and born in Aberford going back to John Gray born about 1786 in Stutton who was living in Aberford from at least 1804 at the time of his marriage to Mary Watson until his death in 1853. If you have further sources of information other than the census records, would you let me know and I will post some names and dates. I would be most grateful for any information you could give me. Hello
The information I have compiled is mostly of ww1 servicemen from the Aberford area as well as limited information on miners from Micklefield pit. I still have family round the Aberford area they are quite active with the local historical society and have access to more information, school and parish records, I would be happy to pass a couple of names on to them on your behalf. Off the top of my head I do not recall any greys on any war memorial around the Aberford area, I know there’s a Albert Watson and a few more Watson’s mentioned on memorials around Aberford. If any of the Aberford names you are researching served in the military I may be able help. Best regards Steven |

When I look at the Gray branch of my family tree there are so many people from Aberford that it would not be fair to ask your family members to search the parish records for them. I wonder though whether you could ask them if the parish registers have been transcribed into either booklets or onto a cd and if so whether they know the dates which have been transcribed and where I would be able to purchase copies? If the parish registers haven't been transcribed then I will have a look through my tree if it is okay with you and I will select a few to try and find out more information from the parish registers about. From the igi it would appear that the earlier members of my Gray family were baptised and married in Kippax. Is this close to Aberford? CJL |

As far as I am aware there are no hard copies of the parish registers but I am waiting an email to confirm this.
Kippax is 4 mile south of aberford, there are several small villages within a 8 mile radius of kippax the main industry was farming until the mid 1800s when the mines started. Garforth is 7 miles south of aberford and a substantial amount of people worked there on the cannal, if your research has pointed you to kippax there is a good chance some of the family you are researching ended up in garforth due to the size and employment opportunity. I have added 2 links to sites that may aide in you research, ( you may have used them already in you research ). http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/WRY/Aberford/index.html http://www.aberford.net/2006/03/walk-through-aberford-1930-by-horace.html If you post a couple of names i will see what i can find out. regards steven |
