Default Inland Waterways and Docks

Hello,
Can anyone advise as to where I might find any information about the Inland Waterways and Docks division of the Royal Engineers? I know that there was a depot at Sandwich where my grandfather was sent before he went to France but I would like to know more about what the division actually did. In fact, anything.
Regards
Victoria

Hi,
Thanks for your interest, but I have been googling for years and there is a dearth of info on this particular division. However, scratching about today I did find something about Richborough and learned that there is a book available about it.

Thank you for that. Very good for background stuff but doesn't help in understanding what the IW&D ordinary private did.
