Thread: POZAN, POSEN

I have been researching my Jewish side of the family who orginated from Posen - at different times in history it has been part of Poland, Germany and Russia.



Has anyone out there every been to Posen and found any surviving records from the 1820's +. I would love to know how you went about finding them. I am planning a visit next year and any advice would be much appreciated. Regards, Rainbow

My Jewish side of the family also came from Posen. The surname is Isaacs ,I have not been able to find a Marriage between Isaacs and Lucas, Their son Thomas born 1817 was the first to come to Gibraltar and started a family here,he started a jewelery business here,so he must have been knowlegeable on the subject ,maybe he got it from his mother Elizabeth Isaacs.Regards KEN.

Thank you for contacting me - my Jewish Isaacs were tailors and jewellers, but their name when they came to the UK was not Isaacs but Katschgar, Katska, Katski - many different spellings. Do you know if this was the same for your ancestors?, regards Michelle

Hi, my ancestors were tailors from Poznan/Posen as well (Chodziez area). Their surnames were MARX and MEIERS/MEIER/MYER.
