    Default Hyde Family

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone is researching the Hyde's from Co. Tyrone?
I have Thomas Henry Hyde b. 1844..His father was Thomas Hyde and his Mother Elizabeth Cotter.
I have his marriage details...He married Douglas (female) B Burrows in 1870 Shankill Belfast.
I know he had a Brother James b. 1846 in Tyrone and d. 1873 in Scotland.
That is as far as I can get.
    Thank you. xxx

    Posh,

As you probably already know, the births of James and Thomas were before the start of statutory registration of births in Ireland (1864). Their parent’s marriage would also seem to be likely to be before the start of stat registration (April 1845, assuming they were Protestant, as I suspect they were).

Your best bet for finding them at this timescale is parish records. To try and narrow the search, you can use Griffiths Valuation. It shows that in 1859/60 there were just 3 Thomas Hyde households listed in Co. Tyrone. One in Hillhead, in the town of Stewartstown (parish of Donaghenry); another in the townland Drumaspil and the third in Drumcrow (both in the parish of Killyman).

Any of these might be your Thomas. You could search the parish records, assuming they have survived, for Thomas, Elizabeth and family. You’ll need to know their exact religious denomination. Most records have been copied and are held in PRONI, Belfast. You can see details on their website:

    www.proni.gov.uk/index/research_and_records_held/catalogues_guides_indexes_and_leaflets/online_guides_and_indexes.htm

I searched the PRONI will site and there is one will for a John Hyde of Stewartstown, gentleman who died 29.12.1892 but I could not see any others connected with the townlands I have mentioned.

    Hi Elwyn,
Thank you for your reply. I shall do as you suggest and see what I can find. I know they married in Belfast in The Church of Ireland so from that I assume that they were Protestant.
I shall keep looking....One day I might be lucky enough to get a bit further on this.
    Again I thank you xx
