    Talking Baillie, bailey, bailly ????

My Gt Grand Mother was Martha Ellis Baillie. as spelt on the marriage Cert I have. I am thinking
that the below could be the person (in Census in RED) that I am seeking information on, and wondered if anyone could help me please?.

Loooking at the Marriage cert I have, I think that maybe it is written that her father was a minister..??, although this Census says Labourer.

I understabnd that I am unlikely to be able to get a Birth certificate for her, but mybe a Baptism record?,
Any information that you could give me would be very welcome.

Martha Ellis Baillie was born in Ireland: This looks like the family in 1851, since she said her parents were John and Margaret.
It does seem to indicate that she fibbed about her age when she married My Gt Grandfather William Hair, in 1869, claiming to be 26, the same age as him! But the truly wonderful thing is it gives the birth county in Ireland...

    1851
14 Taylor St, Glasgow St Mungo, Lanarkshire
John Bailey, 45, Head, born CO Tyrone, Ireland, Labourer
Margrat Bailey, 47, Wife, born CO Tyrone, Ireland
Sarah Bailey, 22, Daughter, born CO Tyrone, Ireland, Shirt Maker
Martha Bailey, 16, born CO Tyrone, Ireland, Shirt Maker
Joseph Bailey, 17, born CO Tyrone, Ireland, Scholar (probably 15 or 12)
John Bailey, 9, born CO Tyrone, Ireland, Scholar
Ann Craig, 23, Visitor, born CO Tyrone, Ireland, Shirt Maker

I can't find anyone in this family in 1861, however.

To trace baptisms you do need to know the exact religion and parish that the person came from. Most surviving records are copied to PRONI Belfast, but they are neither indexed nor on-line, so you need to know which church to look up and you need to search through the records yourself. (You can order copies in to your nearest LDS library).

It might be worth your while checking Poor Law applications, in the Mitchell Library Glasgow. If the family ever made a poor law application, then that often records their religion and parish in Ireland.
