Sometimes it can't be helped. I have one parish on mine that is so faded that only a few on each folio can be made out. The annoying thing is, it is the parish where my ancestors were living.

1050/2/24 Gigamane age 17 born Foreign Parts only the one name shown so I can't say if it's a first or last name.(the other site have him as Gigamane Allen but there is no do)
As for the N/k's personally I add them, I know they are not much use to anyone but I know I have done them.
