Default Arscott's from Devon

I have been researching the Arscott Family for a few years now, I have over 3000 Arscott's on my off line tree, I would love to hear from other Arscott's and those searching information on them, to share information, and maybe help me fill in some gaps!

hi gill
i too have a distant relative called arscott.Do you know of him???
I wrote to the OPC at colebrookeas follows.

There was some uncertainty about the father of John Conibeer's wife, so I sent for the marriage certificate, and was surprised to find that John Conibeer, b.1815 Colebrooke , base son of Elizabeth (Betsy) Conibeer

Hi,

Thanks for your message i do have limited information on these lines via another person who has been intouch with me, I have promissed her that i will endevour to find out and clarify things and with your information also I hope that when i next visit the records office (hopefully in the next week or two) I can give you both some more information. Out of interest her line is via Elizabeth Arscott b 1825 in Colebrooke who married John Pellow in 1848, Elizabeths parents were Hananiah Arscott and Mary Reed.

I hope to have some good news for you soon.

Hi

I have a family tree [not as big as youre seems to be] but i was wondering if you could help me fill in one big gap i have.

I concerns the parentage of one Richard Arscott (born 1779), who married a Sarah Stamp. They had two children, Jane and John.

If you have any information on this I would be very grateful.

Thank you

Hi Sweet-pea193

Can you give me any more info? I have several Sarah's with out surnames as yet, where abouts do they come from? If I haven't already got the info I will see what I can find out at the records office, but my local office only covers Devon & parts of Cornwall. Let me know and I will see what I can do.

All the best - Gill

Hi Graham,

I have been to the records office, and I am sorting though what I have found, unfortunately I didn't have time to go through all the Microfische at Colebrooke (oldest five yet to go - but I will do them next time)

I beleive there are only two possible's; according to the parish records there were only two Williams' who were shoe makers in Colebrooke. I understand from the other lady that I have been intouch with that Elizabeth Medland was by quite some way his junior by about 20 years! And I have found that William was a batchelor according to the records for their marriage. His first child in their marriage was baptised in 1832 and the last in 1839.

It is possible of course that William had a child out of wedlock.

The Other William who married Sarah Smith had children baptised between 1809 and 1827.

I supose again he could have been unfaithful! I know this doesn't help a great deal, but I think it maybe one of those that you will never find out the truth. In the meantime I will continue looking.

By the way I have copies from the parish records, that confirm your message about William Arscott the Miller at Ford, falling into the water and drowning. He was Parish clerk for over 25 years, and they not only put a note under his burial entry, there is a seperate note, with regard to his death and of course his replacement as Parish Clerk.

Sorry it's not more possitive news, If I can help with any other info let me know, and in the meantime I will keep hunting!

All the best

Gill

To Gill H -

All I know is that Sarah Stamp [Stamp is the surname I have here, it may have corrupted over the years] married Richard Arscott. Sarah was born on the 26th September 1779 and died on the 24th June 1856. Richard Arscott, her husband, was born on the 28th March 1779 and died on the 25th March 1849. I got as far back as Richard and have hit a dead end.

I do know that they were based in Devon, maybe around Tetcott. (I also have an address for the home of one of their grandson's homes in Blandford, Dorset.)

Sarah and Richard had 8 children [that I know of]:

- Jane Arscott, born on the 21st April 1802 and died in 1839. She married John Coles on the 19th July 1820.

- Sarah Arscott, born 18th November 1804, married William Pearman.

- Elizabeth Arscott, born 1st March 1807, married William Joca.

- John Arscott, born 1810 and died 13th June 1881. Married first Charity Melhuish on the 3rd April 1842 and then Julianna Toby on the 23rd March 1846.

- Richard Arscott, born 23rd April 1813.

- Mary Arscott, born 1816.

- Anna Arscott, born 24th January 1819.

- Charles Arscott, born 7th January 1822, died 13th March 1844. He married Charlotte Dart on 3rd September 1843.

If you manage to find a link anywhere I have the family tree off all the people mentioned here.

Hi Sweet-pea 193

Sorry to trouble you again but by any chance do you know if Richard b 28 Mar 1779 and d 25 Mar 1849 was baptised on 7 Apr 1779 in Stoke Damerel, Devon? If so I may have some info for you before going to the record office. Can you let me know, Thanks Gill
