I hope the weather is being kind to you! Thanks for your message I only have limited info on the Clyst Honiton Line at the moment going back to Richard Arscott b1779 who married Sarah Stamp, It's amazing how many Arscott's their are out there. I hope that I will be abloe to get to the records office soon, but unfortunately my car broke down today, so it may not be until a couple of weeks time. Just been advised of your site from a friend.

I have recently started to research my family and have got back as far as my Great Great Grandfather.

My name is Gerald Arscott and I was born in Hampstead, London in 1944.

My Great Great Grandfather, William Arscott was born in South Tawton, Devon in 1816, and my Great Grandfather was also born in South Tawton but moved to Hampstead at some point.

I would love to take my family tree back a bit further if I could, but as I live in the North West of Scotland it is some way to go!

Any help or thoughts would be gratefully received.

I have two Williams born/baptised in South Tawton I suspect your William Married an Elizabeth Hooper, but as I said I also have another that married Ann. I also have about 8 more born around a simular time, can you give me any more info? If it is either of these lines please let me know I have quite a bit of info that I can send over, just want to make sure we have the right William. (by the way my partner is related to William that married Elizabeth Hooper) All the best Gill

Thanks for that.

You are correct my William married Elizabeth Hooper. They had a son William b.1847 who married Francis Shepherd (in Hampstead).They also had another 9 children - John, George, Elizabeth, Thomas, Richard, Mary Jane, Edward, Emma and James.

Any further information would be great, especially if it takes me back beyond William.

William's parents were Robert Arscott and Mary Cann they were my partners grt x 3 Grand parents, Thomas, William's brother was my partners line. I have quite a considerable amount of info, going back quite a considerable amount of time (with one slightly unconfirmed link - but about 80 to 90% sure) I can give it to you all but, this may not be what you want, as it would probably ruin your research!
