Thread: APPLIN - Southampton

I have very little information about my 2x great grandmother and her parents, although I must admit I've not made an extensive search.

What I do know...

Fanny Jane APPLIN
b. 6 Aug 1852, Southampton, Hampshire, England
m. John SMITH, 2 May 1868, New Westminster, B.C., Canada
d. 24 Feb 1899, Victoria, B.C., Canada

I do not know when she immigrated to Canada - if she came alone or with her family (I've found no trace of them in B.C.), but she was pretty young when she married.

On Fanny's birth registration, her father William and his wife Jane FULLER are listed as living at 11 Orchard St, Southampton. William's occupation is listed as Sergeant in 35th Foot. I am planning to send for what I hope is their marriage registration, citation found using FreeBMD, and hope for more information to come this way.

I have searched census records in Ancestry with no success. Also poked around FamilySearch.

I've never researched military records before, but I've briefly searched using the National Archives <http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/search/advanced_search.aspx> with no success.

Any and all suggestions welcome. Happy hunting!

IGI has
Fanny Jane Aplin [spelt with 1 P]
Christened 7 November 1852 Southampton All Saints Hampshire England
Parents William Aplin & Jane

Hi Kiwi,

Thanks for finding that. I do have this information from IGI and do search both spellings. The registration record from GRO is APPLIN and IGI has the name in brackets. I'm not sure but think that means the information is uncertain.
