Question TAYLOR

Have been searching the birth of Thomas TAYLOR for many years. This is the information I have.
Thomas Taylor married at St Nicholas Parish Church Newcastle on Tyne on 30 August 1880 to Margaret Hind she was 19 and he was 18 both were shown as living at Forth Street Newcastle and William the father of Thomas was a Wood Turner. Thomas married for the second time 23 February 1891 at St Edmunds Church Gateshead to Hannah Smith both of them had been widowed and she was 34 and he was 30 She lived Sowerby Street and he lived Mansfield Street both Gateshead. His father's occupation was shown as Joiner. Unlucky for me both his marriages were just before the census of 1881 and 1891. I can't find him on the 1871 census. It is surprising that although the search for distant ancestors has proved quite succesful this LARGE BRICK WALL nearer to home has been a massive stumbling block. I don't know about other researchers but I hate a mystery and have spent lots of hours (and money) trying to find this elusive THOMAS TAYLOR

I had the same problem finding my grandfathers father who lived in Gateshead but didn't appear on the census. I found him on the scottish census, born in Kelso and moved later to gateshead to work on the railways. They were joiners also and had the same surname Taylor. Worth a look.
