Default Tattersall / Sowter

Dear Listers,
You might say this is the second branch to the Button that many of you have been so generous when it came to your time.
We have stepped back a step or so and now the Buttons of OZ are the Buttons of the UK.

If I may came I enlist your willing hand to this second branch.
The name is SOWTER./ TATTERSALL.
From family I have very little to go by but this is it.........

Christopher William Sowter [17186/1887 NSWBDM] born in Campbelltown NSW.
Father William Sowter, Mother Mary Tattersall.

William married Mary in Woonona NSW [5680/1886 NSWBDM.]. ages 28 for both.
William was a Railway man.
Mary Tattersall was a Dress maker.
William's parents were George Sowter [deceased], Mother not clear [maybe Emma Johnson]
Mary's Parents were James Tattersall and Isabella Watson.

I believe.....
James [28y] came to Botany Bay, Australia in 19/3/1857 aboard the "Mary Ann". With was his family Isabella [29y], Sarah [4y] and Mark [1y].

Signatures on the wedding certificate where most of the information above are William Sowter, Mary Tattersall, Isabella Tattersall, and Margaret Tattersall.

Now I have more but it takes us forward into their Australian decendants. I would like to find out more about their arrival in Australia. What ship, assuming the UK what part of the UK were the Sowters and Tattersalls from?

As usual your help with this is greatly appreciated.
Best wishes to you and yours, Ray

Hi Ray.

I think I have found James and Isabella Tattersall on the 1851 census in Goldshaw, Lancashire.

James Tattershall 22 Railway Labourer born Goldshaw, Lancashire
Isabella Tattershall 23 Cotton Spinner born Hapton? Lancashire

This looks like the birth for the son Mark Tattersall.

Births Jun 1855

Tattersall Mark Burnley 8e 190

in 1850 there is a marriage in Burnley for a James Tattersall, on the same page is an Isabella Watson, the reference is;

Marriages Dec 1850

Tattersall James Burnley Vol 21 Page 206
