Hi
I am looking for Joseph SURTEES who married Mary CODLING.
Joseph was born about 1782 in Durham.
Their daughter Sarah SURTEES is my GGG Grandmother and she married John TENNET at Seaham.
I would love to know if she had brothers and sisters. According to family legend she was disinherited because she married beneath her.

Have you a date of birth or marriage for Sarah ? The surname Surtees appears to have been quite common in Durham.

Yes. Sarah Surtees was born about September/October. Christening took place 10 October 1819 in Houghton le Spring.
Her marriage was on 26 August 1838 in Seaham and her father Joseph's occupation was recorded as a Sawyer.
Her death was in the last quarter 1880.
in Westoe. That's all the info I have on her apart from her children and Husband.

i have been researching the durham area also but the surname is Slade (also Joseph) there is a connection to the name surtees, im looking for a sidney surtees slade born circa 1900 in (i think) bishop auckland, durham.
