hiI have the Surnames of Salmon and Sowman in my tree, coming mainly from South Suffolk and The North East Essex areas. In my tree, the name starts of as SOWMAN, and at some stage around the 1870's - changes to SALMON. there are 2 theories. 1. The name was misheard - (accents etc taken into account) 2. There is a strepoccoal (?spelling) disease called erysipealas - which can be related to swine, and humans do get it. (Yes I've had it once never again - thanks) and at the time it was around more and due to connections with swine - name changed. Liz |

I have Salmon & Sowman in my tree from Essex area. Ann Salmon married my 2nd cousin 3 times removed Frederick Wisken. I have a lot more Salmons as well. I also have a Judy Salmon who married my 5th cousin John Wiskin, but he was born in Canada. I don't have any other info on Judy.
I have Sowmans also. John Sowman married Emma Bore. Her father Isaac married Maria Whisken. Maybe we have a family connection? Pam |
