Thread: SCHOFIELD, Eli & Ellen,

Would like to know more about my SCHOFIELD family from Oldham area. I understand that both my great grandmother's parents were Schofields from different families. Ellen was born in 1897 in Oldham to James Schofield b. 20 Dec 1860 and his wife Ada Schofield b. 03 Apr 1841 in Dukinfield, Cheshire.

Jame's is the son of Eli Schofield b. 1816-1817 in Glossop, Derbyshire and his mother was Jane JACKSON b. abt 1813 in Saddleworth, Yorkshire. They were married in Oct 1837 in Mottram, Chester. Known children besides James are Elizabeth, James B and Mary Ann.

Ada is the daughter of Samuel Schofield b. 1827 in Saddleworth, Yorkshire and Jane BRIERLY b. 03 Apr 1841 in Rakewood(?). They were married abt 1859 in Prestwich, St.Mary, Lancashire. There other children were John (married Minnie SWALLOW), Abner (married Eliza Ann SWALLOW) and James.

I would really love to know more about this family. My great grandmother who I called "gramma" because she raised my mother who was her first grandchild, passed away in 1987 in Maryland. Her parents came to America when she was an infant. I have postcards, dozens, from her visits to Oldham area and I also have some lace her grandmother made and waistcoats bother her mother and mother in law wore while in England. Gramma said that Ada's family came from "southern England" originally but I am not sure what that means.
