my elusive 3x great grandmother, Hannah Smith, has on her American tombstone that she was born Dec 12, 1785. it does not give her birthplace, and although she died after vital records were instituted in Ohio, she has no death record. she married my 3x great grandfather, Joseph Cross, on 12 Oct 1806 in the parish of St. Martins, Colchester. they left for America in 1843, arriving on October 23rd on the Panther. there were family papers but a fire in the place they were stored has left us without them. Joseph Cross, having a Quaker birthright, has been easy to research and I have his ancestry back into the 1600's, but Hannah and he married in the Church of England and her ancestry is a mystery to me.
