Hi SPahad,

I have a Ranft in my tree but am having trouble finding a connection. I have Jane Oliver born 1892 Yetholm, Roxbrough Scotland. Her father died and her mother remarried Ernest Charles Goodchild. I do not know if she was ever adopted by him. They lived in Northumerland and then Gateshead
Co. Durham. She ran away from home to marry this person with the surname Ranft. So far I have been unable to find a marriage for them but have not given up trying. It is always possible that the marriage never took place but I have found no other marriage for her either.

Hi SPahad,

No I have't found anything yet. I haven't found a marriage of Jane yet or a death under her maiden name. The answer is out there somewhere.

Hi SPahad,

With your help with the marriage I have managed to trace them back from Co.Durham, Liverpool, Flintshire Wales to Germany. The first I have in my line is Henry Ranft 1842 Germany who married Christina Angus of Liverpool. There first children were born in Wales. I have found no connection with the Dover line yet.

Starlight:

That's fantastic!

Help me with this.....how did you get them back to Germany? That's my brick wall.

So glad you've made this breakthrough.

Starlight:

After I paid more attention to what you said in your message, you seem to have connected all of the U.K. Ranfts but for the Dover ones. I would love to see your Ranft tree if you are willing. I've been looking at all the various Ranfts (census and otherwise) for years in the U.K. and have seen that they are either in the Durham area, Liverpool or Wales. Then....Dover.

Let me know if you're willing to share. All I have is my family from Dover and I don't know if they connect with any of the others.

Thanks,
SP

Hi SP,

I am far from connecting all the Ranfts. There were loads in Wales before my Henry. The earliest one I have found in Wales was born in Germany 1814 but was a British citizen. There are 3 marriages in the early 1820's in Middlesex so they were probably here then.
