Hya mattygirl,
I have been passed some information from my Auntie this morning re my Grandad's side of the tree........ His Mother, my Great Grandmother, was Lily Walker born 1894 in Yorkshire (not sure exactly where yet) Lily's parents were - John William Walker born c1866 in Yorkshire Agnes McDermott born c1867 - birthplace unknown Married: 05/08/1888 I have Agnes's Father listed as Patrick McDermott. I currently have no birthdate, birthplace, etc. I know that the Walker's came from Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Does any of this ring any bells with you? Waks ![]() |

Hi Waks,
I have struggled for years with this McDermott side! and only recently I found or should I say had found for me my G G Grandmother Mary Ann McDeremott born in 1848 at Leeds her Father was Patrick mcDermott .. she was on the younger end of that family so I will look for the other members alter and let you know. Also i will give you the web site of the forum where they found my Mary Anne for me. The McDermotts or my side were from Ireland but I don't know where and they moved about from Liverpool to Yorkshire and then back to Lancashire where Patrick died in 1883 aged 76. I think he had a son called Patrick, but again there are so many Patrick McD's about! I will get back to you. Mattygirl ![]() |

Hi Waks,
I have just checked my records and the son's name was Peter, there is also a Thomas and the rest were girls but no Agnes. In 1851 the family lived in Northoram Halifax. I did find some information on http://www.yorkshireindexers.co.uk on the forum .. just put a request on. You will see mine for the McDermotts. I had an answer within 3 hours! great. Good Luck and let me know how you go on please. Mattycat ![]() |

mattygirl,
Thanks for that, I will follow up your links & see what it turns up. I have posted messages on quite afew different websites & I'm awaiting replies now. If I find anything out on the McD's that sounds vaguely linked to Yorkshire, Liverpool, or Lancashire, you'll be the 2nd person to know. Catch u L8r Waks ![]() |

Hiya Mattygirl,
I have found some info on my SCOTTISH McD's..... My 3 x G Grandfather was Patrick McDermott b1838 in Glasgow, he married Mary Ann Fluker. They had James McD b1861 in High Church, Glasgow, Mary McD b1865 in Glasgow & Agnes McD b1867 in Calton, Glasgow. The family are listed in the 1881 census as living at 3 Dawson's Court, George St, Leeds. Both Patrick & son James were Fruiterer's by occupation. John William Walker & Agnes McDermott married 5 Aug 1888 in Leeds. I guess if yours are Irish & mine are Scottish, we're going to struggle to find a link.... ![]() |

Hi Waks,
What a shame but I think it will be easier to trace the Scottish McDermott's than Irish ones as a lot of records were destroyed. In 1881 my Paternal Great Great Grandfather was in Lancashire and died in 1883. Good luck with the search Mattygirl ![]() Last edited by mattygirl; 27-05-2007 at 12:17 PM. |

Hi Waks,
I now have a birth certificate for Mary Ann McDermott, father Patrick McDermott and Mother Mary formerly Magrath. So it does look like we are on two different families. mattygirl Ps Now the search is on for Mary Magrath .. it's never ending ![]() |

don't know if it's any help, but I've got a McDermott line I'm trying to trace in Co. Kildare. don't have access to Irish records so haven't been very successful. however I do have several from the Griffith's valuation index-that can help pinpoint names within areas....no, I don't have a Patrick, but then I haven't much beyond Mary McDermott marrying Patrick Ledwitch.
