I am looking for any information on the MINTER family from the Ramsgate/Margate area of Kent. Two of their children arrived in Australia around the 1860's. I can't find any information on how or why they went to Australia. Thanks

I have found a Martin George Minter b 14 August 1838 Margate, Kent d 12 May 1923 Newcastle Australia. Parents Martin Minter b 20 January 1799 Thanet Kent and Fanny Morphew b 10 May 1797 Dover Kent. Married 13 May 1822 St John's Thanket Kent.

Is this one of your Minter's. I found it on RootsWeb Family Trees posted by a Merrilyn Minter. There is more information there as well. You may already have this if he is yours. Merrilyn can be contacted on merrilynjminter at hotmail.com (replace the at with @ and remove spaces.)

Also found a Joseph Martin Minter. There is a tree there dating back to late 1600's early 1700's. Joseph married in 1860 and Martin in 1869 so the dates fit. But you probably have this information. You may not have the older information though.

Many thanks for your reply. Yes, I have all that information. I have been in contact with Merrlyn. I was just hoping that someone in England may have a little more information such as how and when these two brothers came to Australia. I am also wondering if their father joined a ship too.

Hi I have a Martin Minter in my tree. He was born in 1838 in Ramsgate. He was the brother of my 2 x great grandfather George. However I don't think this is the same Martin mentioned in the other posting. He did go to Australia though. He was a mariner which was a trade handed down from his maternal grandfather. I believe Joseph and Martin that were mentioned may have been cousins to my Martin. There father was also Martin Minter and he was a baker, again the trade passed down to the sons according to census records.

I don't know if I was successful in replying to your massage yesterday, so I'll try again. Thanks for this information. I was excited to be able to add a little bit more information to my family tree. I think you may be right about them being related as I do not have a George in my tree. So far I have not found any siblings for my Martin and Josephs father. I was very pleased to learn that being a mariner was a trade handed down from the maternal grandfather. This I did not know. I think there must be an awful lot I don't knoe about the family. I am still searching for the ship that Martin arrived in Australia on. I have found the ship that Jospeh arrived on. I will keep an eye open for your Martin now, here in Australia.

Many thanks for this information. Last August I was in England and managed a couple of days in Ramsgate/Margate. I visited St Lawrence church and found the head stone of William and Jane. Would you like a copy of this photo? I have put some of my tree on line. You may like to send me a request to view it. At the moment I have not slotted your William and Jane into my tree. I now have many nights of enjoyment trying to figure it out.

Last August I was in England and managed a couple of days in Ramsgate/Margate. I visited St Lawrence church and found the head stone of William and Jane. Would you like a copy of this photo?
