Hi
My name is Stephen Lamb from Australia. My family, the lamont family came from Argyll and I'm trying to find out the history of the lamont family. My ancestors changed the mane to Lamb and eventually settled in Romsey Hampshire UK. My Grandfathers name was William Edward Lamb from Romsey. Please can anyone help me with the Lamont history. Thank you Stephen Lamb ![]() |

Hi Stepehen, I am a direct descendant of a branch of the Lamont/Lamond family. My grandmother was Lamond but her Father was Lamont.............name changed on Granny's birth. My branch are from Dundee Scotland but previous to that they were all in Glasgow. I can only assume that they originated in Argylle and Bute as thats where the Lamont seat was and still is. As far as I am aware there was a lot of migration went on during the Highland Clearances..............some Lamonts went to Northern Ireland where they also changed their names. The Lamonts are a clan in their own right and have their own tartan....this link may provide you with an overview of the Lamont clan history http://www.scotclans.com/clans/Lamont/history.html
hope it helps cheers Mollie xx |

I belong to the Lamont clan.Their motto is (Neither spare nor dispose.Founded by Fearchar in 1200.the clan Lamont soon established itself in Argyll and Cowal. The family seat of Toward on Bute was destroyed by the Campbells, who drove them from much of Argyll. Regards Ken.
