Hi Ozziedragon
There is a James LOVICK who died in Emmaville NSW in 1883 aged 53 (reg 7839), which fits your dates. A Mary A LOVICK also died in Emmaville, she died in 1904 (reg 9156), father Harrison? It looks like they had twins - Atwell J & Caroline T - in 1867 in Braidwood NSW. Atwell died in 1888 (reg as Alwell J) in Inverell NSW (reg 10499). Caroline married Daniel DOYLE in Emmaville NSW in 1890 (reg 3444). They had 5 chn and lived in Emmaville. Caroline died in 1925 in Petersham NSW (reg 1444). Also a Beatrice who died in 1899 in Picton NSW, dau of Julius J & Mary A (reg 3003). Harry, son of Julius J & Mary A, died in Nyngan NSW in 1930 (reg 18529). He married Margaret BAIN in Narrandera NSW in 1882 (reg 5684); then married Hilda Mary SUGDEN in 1914 in Nyngan (reg 16827). It seems James LOVICK, of Braidwood & Araluen, was a gold miner - but maybe not a very successful one - he was declared insolvent in 1872! :-) Cherilyn |

Hi again
Looking at Thomas now - there are a few in Tasmania. I am thinking 'your' Thos was the one who arrived aboard "Clyde" in Dec 1830. I reckon he is also the one who married Helen MITCHELL in Hobart in 1837; they had 4 children born 1838-1842. Helen died in 1843. Thos then married Mary Ann MILLINGTON in 1857 in Launceston. She was much younger than he (she was born in Launceston in 1836 to Wm & Mary Ann nee JEX). They had one daughter in Tasmania (Martha, who died aged 15 months in Victoria) and were in Victoria by 1858, where they had a further 6 children 1859-69. Thomas died the following year: Surname: LOVICK Given Names: Thomas Event: D Father: Thomas Mother: Helen MITCHELL Age: 60 Birth Place: NORW Year: 1870 Reg Number: 9632 I believe the mother's name at least is an informant error, and that this was his first wife - his sons from his first marriage who died in Victoria have the same information! But given the dates and his place of birth this seems a good match otherwise. Let me know if you think this is the right man and if you would like further info on the children. :-) Cherilyn |

Hi Cherilyn
Thanks for the emails and the data on JAMES JULIUS. Yes that's my Thomas Lovick, he married Helen first, then Jane Orchard (a convict), then a Mary Anne Millington in Launceston. I have a fair bit on his line if you want to share as I'm a direct decsendent through his eldest son James by Helen. The "Lovick's" of Merrijig are through his third son William by Helen. James Julius or Julius James arrives in Australia around 1857 and I have been trying to see if there was any connection also I couldn't find him on the UK 1851 census. I know that there are three disctinct lines of Lovick's in Australia as another group migrated post WWII to South Australia. I have always had a suspision that James Julius and my Thomas may have been related somehow, but the more I search the more this appears not to be. I've tracked James Julius's father to a Samuel and that James may have bn in Billingsford Norfolk England around 1830. He married Mary Ann Robinson in Lowestoft Suffolk England about 1854. I'm following this up also. Both Thomas and James were literate men and both were in trades. So I suspect that Thomas may have been some education. I know that my Thomas was a convict, and James Julius a free man and both from Norfolk. Thomas was convicted for stealing a boat (heaven only knows why). He was appointed as a groom to Govt. House in Hobart, so he may have had some expertise. James appears to have had a child on the boat coming over. I have attached a sheet of my records details in an adobe file FYI. The Lovick gedcom file is a bit big to send. These two were the only Lovick's that I could find in early Australia for a long time. Let me know if there is anything more you need. Again thanks for filling in my blanks. Cheers Sharon |
