My Johnsons G Grandfather John and family moved into Fairclough Lane in the late 1880's. They had a shop and hairdressers and members of the family were still living there in 1940's.

Hi,

I don't know whether you have this info or not, but here goes

1911 Gore's Directory Liverpool

47, Fairclough Lane, John Johnson ( Hairdresser)

1938 Kelly's Directory, Liverpool.

Hi again Sue,

I assume you mean all cencus returns upto and including 1901, which I checked out, this shows only the four eldest children that you know of i.e John/Mary Elizabeth/Hannah and George, at No.45 with their parent's, the property at No.47 was unoccupied.

As Richard born 1898 wasn't shown on this cencus I have checked out 1837 online and found the following(assuming that he had died)

1898 Richard Johnson Sept Qtr Aged 0 Liverpool 8B 25
1899 Richard Johnson Dec Qtr Aged 0 West Derby 8B 451
1900 Richard Johnson Dec Qtr Aged 0 Runcorn 8A 141
you would need to check these out with G.R.O that one of them is your Richard.

If he didn't die, I also checked Liverpool Gore's Directory for 1938 and came up with the following:

Richard Johnson at the following address's

13, Mitylene Street
31, Clare Road, Bootle. (Baker)
49, Sandy Lane, Walton. (Beerseller)
144, Upper Essex Street. (Book Keeper)
73, Waterloo Road (Cocoa Rooms)
Naylors Road, Little Woolton. (Gardner)
72, Lawrence Road, Wavertree. (Grocer and provision's dealer)
13, Meaburn Street. (Steward)
89, Red Rock Street. (Steward)
18 & 20 Langham Street, Kirkdale.
residence 14, Langham Street, (Wheelright)
33, Church Street, West Kirby - Office 7, Sweeting Street, T.A. Berenice, Liverpool. (Estate Agent & Accountant.
Clapham & Morris Limited, Liverpool Warehouse and office 23, Cheapside, Dale Street.
.................................................. ...

George William Johnson at the following address's

5, Queen Street, Waterloo. (Plumber)

Grove Street, New Ferry (Inspector of Police, Cheshire County Constabulary)

.................................................. ........

Emily Johnson at the following address's
6, Hampden Road, Higher Tranmere.
133, Breck Road, West Derby.

both unmarried.
.................................................. .....

I couldn't find anything on Frances or Emily Rosa.

I hope that this info will be of use to you.

Hi Nanna,
Thanks for this information. I have been contacted by a relative who stated that Richard did in fact die I will have to check but I am sure it is the West Derby entry. I think I will send for the death cert thanks for the reference. He also told me that George William was killed in the 2nd world war, he and John went to war together but only John returned. I can't thank you enough for all the work you have done for me. Many, many thanks.
