Red face Re: Challinor/Challenor

my ancestors were challinor/challiner from around the Beeston/ Shacklock area. My ancestors were James and Mary and the many children they had. My greatgrandfather Hugh Challinor ended up in Lancashire after his wife Alice nee Windsor died is this any part of your tree ? regards Chris.

Thumbs up Re: Challinor/Challenor

I am rather excited by your reply!!!!

My ancestors are James and Mary Challenor (nee Rogers) from Shocklach. Their children were James, Margaret, Charles, Sarah, Phillis, Mary, Richard and Rebecca.

I am descended from their son Richard - his second marriage.

I do have a lot of info on my Challinor line, but I would like to confirm where your Hugh Challinor appears in the Tree. Are you descended from one of the siblings mentioned above? If you are, then that is great

Looking forward to receiving your reply.

Hi jj, My James and Mary had a James and that's all I know, but James (son)and Ann had Henry, Sarah, Frederick, Hugh b1859, Elizabeth, Samuel, Catherine, Annie, Thomas, all living at Beeston, Hugh was a blacksmith and married Alice Windsor and had six sons, one of them Hugh was my grandfather. After Alice died he went to live in Warrington with his brother Thomas, and the boys went to live in Nantwich with Ann Windsor (Alices mother) I live in Australia now, but I knew my grandfather and didn't ask any questions untill it was too late as my grandfather and dad are now dead.I have been in touch with two people that are related distantly to me and one of them went to the cheshire records office and found all my information. Hope this helps. regards Chris (nee Challinor)

Hello again Chris

Do you know whether your James and Mary had any other children apart from James (jnr)? If you find out that they're the same as mine then we will have a connection.

Do you know when James (jnr) was born and where?

A contact of mine very kindly went to the Chester Record Office and looked up all the Challenor/Challinor baptisms, marriages and burials for me. There only seems to be one couple, James and Mary Challenor. Their children's names (as mentioned in my previous post) all appear through later generations in my Challinor tree.

I'm a bit confused because the James that I have isn't married to an Ann and I can't make any connection with the names you mentioned. I have found them all in the census's, have you found your families in any of the census?

Red face Re: Challinor/Challenor

Hello again, like you I did get all my information from the Cheshire records office, but I do have James on the 1841 census but no parents or siblings. After that he's with Ann nee Palin and the children as mentioned, and he's an engine driver, although in 1851 he was a corn thrasher. Most of the names are common at that time and I was lucky that my contact is a really interested researcher, he is connected to the family through the Duttons and Sandbach families. Sorry I don't know any more then that but I have concentrated on James and Ann. regards Chris.

Hi Chris

The first line of your last post has confirmed that we are not researching the same line!! You say you have your James in the 1841 census, well unfortunately for me the 1841 pages for Shocklach are missing so won't have any of mine for that year. By 1851 my James (snr) and Mary are living in Shocklach, but the children have left home and married. Their son James married Sarah Humphreys, then they had son James who married a Sarah Pickering.

Looks like problem solved

Searching for this Welsh lot: Jones, Challinor, Trow, Mills, Simon, Jenkins, James, Lewis, Owen, Lloyd, Davies, Evans....and not a Smith in sight

and the English families:
Challenor/Challinor, Beaton/Betton

Come out, come out, wherever you are!

Talking Re: Challinor/Challenor

I was just on the family search when I got your last e.mail, James (mine) was in Beeston in 1841. On the family search I can't find a James and Mary other then the one I had Mary Rodgers, I will keep looking thanks for the reply. Chris.

I have looked again at my James in 1841 and included in the family was Elizabeth Turner so I checked with family search and there is a John Challinor and Elizabeth nee Teasdale parents of James, so my supposition is Elizabeth Challinor was James's mother and she must have re-married a Turner. Changes things alltogether doesn't it !!!

It most certainly does but then that is the fun part of genealogy, it would be very boring if it was really easy
