This is my Collins brick wall...sorry if a bit long winded.
The earliest record of my Collins family is from the 1861 census Glasgow as follows. 1 Little Dove Hill, Glasgow High Church Thomas Collins 55 shoemaker chelsea pensioner Ireland Rebecca 50 wife Ireland William 20 son steward on steamboat Ireland Henry 18 son calender Ireland Thomas 13 son calender Ireland I know that Thomas married Rebecca Boyd in 1854 and that his first wife and mother of at least Henry was called Sarah Hughes. I can't find a definate trace of son William but I know a lot about Thomas who went on to become the minister of Dumbarton church. Thomas married late in life and just to confuse things his marriage and death certificate name a Mary Crawford as his mother. He is definately Henry's brother because he corresponded with the poor house about his brother Henry's wife Janet Brown. Henry born c1842 (my gg grandfather) married Janet Brown in 1865 Glasgow. He was a boilermaker on the ships. His son Thomas Collins born 1865 Glasgow married Rebecca Mason in 1887 and they settled in Grays Essex and later Poplar. Any connections to this family or ideas on how to trace them further back would be most welcome. Lyla |
