Hello from New Zealand.



After 15 years, I'm still struggling to find the birthplace, parents and siblings of my great great Grandfather George HARWOOD. (sometimes transcribed as HORWOOD)



Family lore has him bn in Thorne Coffin nr Yeovil, possible parents James HORWOOD & Sarah but I have been unable to verify this so far.

He was 24 at the time of his marriage and 27 in the 1841 census, but at emigration was 23 and 72 according to his death obit in 1888 which makes his birth between 1814 & 1818.



The only concrete evidence I have so far, is

1. his marriage to Elizabeth EASTMENT on the 23 July 1839 at Brympton (Elizabeth was the d/o Job EASTMENT & Thomasin(e) STRONG and was bap in Haselbury Plucknett, SOM in May 1812) and



2. the following 1841 census entry which seems to be correct for son James.

Lower Odcombe, Odcombe, Somerset

George Head Mar 27 Bn in County Agr Lab

Elizabeth Wife Mar 30 Bn in County

James Son 1 Bn in County (Family Bible has him bn East Chinnock)



The 3 of them emigrated to New Zealand in 1841 aboard the "London". During the voyage, son James died and a son Thomas was born.
