Thread: MacDonald John . Ross shire

I can't find out much about him apart from the face that he may have been born about 1830. Apparently he was adamant that he came from Ross but no one knows where abouts. I am told he had a brother who followed him out to Australia and then over to New Zealand during the gold rush era. His name was Donald. I have been stuck in this for years and it is sooooo frustrating

John MacDonald married Martha GALTON in Dunedin NZ 1863. and He died in 1887 in Dunedin. so that part is ok . But the parents of him??????

Have you any information on his brother Donald . There are 3 possible families. One where Donald was older than John, the other two Younger. Do you know what year Donald arrived

I have uncovered info from my sisters stuff.John McDonald born March 1830.and Donald McDonald born April 1832.Both born in Stratheffir,which I think should be Strathpeffer as this is a parish in Ross and Fodderty is near by. As to parents I have no idea. This information came from the original bible. So I am lead to believe. The spelling on the bible is McDonald,b ut according to Mum her father insisted it was macDonald.
