Smile Phillipp Spatz and accessing German Geneology Records

Hi I am trying to find records for Phillipp Spatz, born 1st July 1915(?) and passed away circa 1988 in Maxdorf, Mannheim, Germany. Phillipp, we believe was captured in Guernsey in 1944/45 and was a POW we think. We know he married Jeanie Grant Ritchie in Denbighshire in 1952 then her best friend :-(, Sophia Jones in 1975. Looks like there is a record for Sophia Spatz (nee Jones) died in 1984 in Frankfurt (possibly) according to records of British Citizens who died abroad.
Another probable marriage is with Karollna or Karolina Spatz (nee Mock) whereby a son was born on 14th September 1942 – so said son would be 70 this year if still alive.

We have hit a brick wall with the Spatz side of the family and would be looking for information on Willhelm Spatz who was Phillipp's father according to the marriage certificate of Jeannie Ritchie.

Does anyone know if there is any decent access to german geneology? Thanks in advance and any help guidance would be very much appreciated.

    Hallo Wooleyb,
Have you tried either of these sites German Genealogy Information & Resources | German Roots
and germanculture.com: The Best Search Links on the Net.
Either might have links that might be useful.
There is some info on Google re German occupation of Guernsey and somewhere there must be lists of German POWs .

    Re the Moch marriage.
Renate Spatz female. born Dec 16th 1945 death 21 Jan 1945 Hochspeyer. Parents Phillip Spatz and Katharina Moch.
    Germany
    source film no. 489359
    ref no bk.1 ch 9
    1945(Lds site-family search .org)

Since the Channel islands were occupied from30 June 1940 until 9th May 1945 and if your Phillip was on Guernsey at some time then and taken as a POW he could not have been in Germany marrying anyone.
