Hi all ... I'm back again
![]() I've been researching the migration to Australia of William Birrell Paterson (b 1877 in Carnbee, Fife) and his wife Georgina Paterson m.s. Laing (b 1877 in Fosterton, Kinglassie, Fife) - Georgina is the blood link through my Drummond/Laing maternal great grandparents. I've managed to trace them and their five childen from their migration records ex-Scotland in 1911 to Australia (Townsville) then a sixth child in 1912. I've found them in the 1913, 1919, 1925, 1930, 1936 Electoral Rolls. In the 1949 Electoral Roll they've turned up in Darra, Brisbane. I'm trying now to find their death and burial dates. Any Antipodean 'cousins'able to help? Regards |

Not found any of their deaths but the Queensland Online Records only go up to 1929.
Have found some of the childrens marriages though. Isabella Hogg Laing Paterson m Richard James Harrison in 1921. William Birrell m Olive Elizabeth Dunn in 1926 Found 2 possibles for Margaret. The most likely is Frederick Hannington Rasmussen in 1927. The other is for a Margaret Alma Gladys to John Gerald Ferris in 1928. 2 possibles for Jessie. Jessie Ann Arthur to Walter Bryant in 1926 and Jessie Agnes to Guy Archibald Loeman Brown in 1920. Hope this is of some help. |

Great Kate, I knew you'd find something
I had thought about adding a post saying ' when Kate comes on site she'll likely be able to help' but didn't want to pressure you. I knew you'd come up trumps though You're a star. |

Janet Millar Paterson is Jessie on the Australian Immigration Records and Isabella is listed as Bella. The whole family is under Patterson. This is the link to the site http://www.archives.qld.gov.au/resea...grationindexes
that is why I looked for a marriage for Jessie and not Janet Miller Paterson. |

Hi Kate ... thanks for that (do you never sleep?)
![]() I agree with you on the Jesse and Belle name differences. Quite common, especially in Scotland http://www.whatsinaname.net I have their names confirmed as Janet and Isabella from the Scottish Birth Records. This was 'my' PATERSON family (from 'findmypast.com' ... with a couple of irrelevant lines deleted) Name: William PATERSON Date of departure: 1 August 1911 Port of departure: London Destination port: Townsville Destination country: Australia Date of Birth: 1878 (calculated from age) Age: 33 Marital Status: Married Sex: Male Occupation: Labourer Notes: The following people with the same last name travelled on this voyage: - Andrew PATERSON Belle PATERSON Georgina PATERSON Jessie PATERSON Margaret PATERSON William PATERSON Ship: RIPPINGHAM GRANGE Steamship Line: Queensland Line Where bound: Brisbane, Australia And - apart from the surname spelling - match with the list you gave me ... PATTERSON William 33 Rippingham Grange 16 Sep 1911 IMM/125 222 Z1966 M1705 PATTERSON Georgina 33 Rippingham Grange 16 Sep 1911 IMM/125 222 Z1966 M1705 PATTERSON Andrew 12 Rippingham Grange 16 Sep 1911 IMM/125 222 Z1966 M1705 PATTERSON Bella 11 Rippingham Grange 16 Sep 1911 IMM/125 222 Z1966 M1705 PATTERSON Jessie 9 Rippingham Grange 16 Sep 1911 IMM/125 222 Z1966 M1705 PATTERSON William 8 Rippingham Grange 16 Sep 1911 IMM/125 222 Z1966 M1705 PATTERSON Margaret 2 Rippingham Grange 16 Sep 1911 IMM/125 222 Z1966 M1705 Though quite who this one is ... I'm not sure ![]() PATERSON Eliza 22 Rippingham Grange 16 Sep 1911 IMM/125 227 Z1966 M1705 the page reference at the end differs from 'my'family who all appeared on page 222 I'd welcome your thoughts on all of this Regards Chiad Fhear |

Yeah I wondered about that one too. Do you know William's siblings. May have been a younger sister or a cousin, or even a niece. It appears another complete family came out in the April on the same ship.

Hi Kate
There are none of these Paterson family members listed in the records I have - but we can't disregard them. Next time I go to New Register House in Edinburgh I'll do a bit of 'sleuthing' and see what crops up vis-a-vis parentage for Adam and Jessie. Their birth years are about 1873 so the info should be on the DIGROS system. I've got a confirmed marriage from 'down under' for Margaret (born 1909) to a Frederick Hannington Rasmussen in 1927. His middle name could be Harrington - the writing isn't all that good. The search goes on ... Regards Chiad Fhear |
