Default any advice on tricky problem..

for me its tricky,lol
ok heres what it is,

my uncle albert who i never met died in 1997 he was supposed to be my nans uncle but on his death bed he told my nan he wasnt her real uncle and that my 2nd great grandma edith brought him up as her own and changed his surname to prudden which was her maiden name, none of my family know his real surname but i heard a while back that albert was born in this family but brought up with edith, i have done a search on the 1901 census for edith and on there it says there was a albert cash whos mother was alice cash (prudden) who is ediths sister this albert was born in 1898 do you think this could be the same albert? and how do i go about finding albert pruddens real surname and date of birth, will his death cert will only have prudden wouldnt it?

Hi Mand82,

Can you please clarify a few things? You say uncle Albert died in 1997, and Albert Cash was born in 1898, if they are the same person this would make him 99 when he died ........... not impossible! but do you know if 'your' uncle Albert was almost 100 when he died? If you buy his death cert it will at least tell you his age.

Also did Edith Prudden have a sister - Alice Prudden (who married a man surnamed Cash?) Sorry for the questions but to help with your search we need to be sure of the facts. Could you also tell us where they lived?

Maybe, when all facts are clarifyed we can help find a birth for Albert

edith had a sister called alice prudden and alice married a cash,
i dont know how old albert was and my nan cant rember all i know he was older then my great grandma elise, edith's daughter who was born 1913 and died 1988 aged 74, i did a search but could only find a death cert for a albert prudden who died in 1997 in barnet which is where he lived, my nan cant rember the excate year but i rember it was 1995-1997 as it was after my uncle michael had died and i rember not being allowed to go to the furnal i also knew he was in the royal navy in 1942 as my nan used to have a photo of him that had a message on the back and signed by albert and the year 1942 for my great grandma, but shes kinda lost it also he has a kid called jean i think thats what my nan said her name was,

the census i got albert cash etc.. from was the 1901 census when edith and her family lived at 5 albert road in barnet, london

HI Mand82

I have found a birth for an Albert Ernest Prudden 1908 4th Qtr Barnet
Vol 3a Pg 374

Also the death which you found.
Albert Ernest Prudden dob 16 Nov 1908
Died Aug 1997 aged 88
Enfield
Register District D39D
District and Sub District 2271D
Entry No269

There is also Albert Cash 1897 4th Qtr Whitechapel Vol 1c Pg 279. This could be the Albert Cash on the 1901 Census

Marriage for Alice Prudden 1898 4th Atr Wandsworth Vol 1d Pg 1084
There is a William James Cash on the same page.

I suppose to verify who is who it would be best to get birth certificates

dont think that albert will be mine, as edith prudden married a lennard waters in june 1913 and their daughter elsie waters was born july 1913 and i know albert was older then elise,
just at library searching on ancestry but cant find anymore info maybe albert's death cert will have info on his birth and maybe some other info that could point to his real mum etc..
