looking for james wood born 1831.
all census results from 1861 show birth place as Scotland, but not district.
This wouldnt be so bad, but it is a very common name.
Married Mary Ann Laws 06 May 1861 at Newcastle

Hi Ken,

there are 24 James Wood's born in Scotland between the years 1830 -1832. If you have his marriage Cert, which will give his father's name, we might be able to narrow this down a tad..

Have entered the name of Robert Wood as father this time whilst searching on Scotland's People and it has resulted in one.


24/04/1832 James Wood
Parents:Robert Wood and Sarah Forrester FR576
Parish: Ayton
City/County Berwick.
GROS ref: 727/0030/0050


I suppose it could be possible as Berwick and Newcastle aren't that far from one another.

Hi Raven,

Thanks for that bit of information. My grandfather's step-mother's relatives moved from Berwick and Roxbrugh to Newcastle. I had always assumed it was a long way.
