Unhappy brick wall

Hello every one. Being new here I'm not too sure of what I am doing yet.
The person I am looking for is John Harper born around 1798, I have him as being born in Bristol, but, that's just family myth He Married a Scottish girl named Mary, another big help. I have him recorded on the 1852 census as living in Markham, Ontario, Canada. His age at the time of the census is listed as 54, his wife Mary ? as 45 and his three children as Robert 14, Mary Ann 20, and Andrew W. as 7. It may help to know that John and Mary were listed as Presbyterian. The next census I found was from Monck township in Ontario with Robert Harper and his family. No John Harper or Mary , no Mary ann or Andrew. I need help!!!

Hi canuk - there is a submitted entry on the IGI -
John Harper b 1801 Bristol, wife Mary, death 3 Oct 1853 Markham, York, Ontario
I don't know about the Bristol birth - I have the Bristol baptism index but couldn't find him - but as the death info is so specific I guess that is probably right
