Hi Folks
Hope it goes well with you all ![]() Joseph Trego Stiles chr 14 Oct 1798 St Mary's, Marylebone d Mar qtr 1889 Fulham. He was a schoolmaster. We know his second marriage on 14 Jun 1842 St Mary's, Lambeth to his housekeeper Sarah Dorton b c1823 Bethnal Green according to every census after her marriage. d 23 Sep 1875 aged 52 (Family Bible) mar cert states Joseph was a widower, son of John a fishmonger, (and we suspect that his mother is Ann,) Sarah was the dau of William a weaver. Sarah said she was of full age.... yeah right!! Sarah Stiles b 1841 may or may not be Sarah Dorton's child born out of wedlock or could possibly be the last child of the first marriage. Ann was the first child after the marriage. Joseph and Sarah had in all, a dozen children. Sarah d 23 Sep 1875 in Wandworth, and in the 81 census Joseph is a widower. Sarah's parents are possibly William Dorton and Jane Kerr, who mar in 1818. Jane died in 1851. He mar Sarah Cushway 1859. We think that William Dorton's parents are possibly William, aged 70-75, a silk weaver and Sarah, aged 65-70, a warper in the 1841 Census for Tower Hamlets. Family lore has it that Joseph Trego Stiles killed off his first wife in childbirth... worn out!! He was supposed to have a large family with both wives. We have no trace whatever of this first family. We are trying, and failing miserably, to confirm all this and possibly venture further back. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Any ideas will be welcome. markf |
