Thread: Am I first here too?

I seem to be the first posting on here, where is everyone, does no one else have an interest in Renfrewshire?



My paternal grandfather comes from here, he was born in Greenock in 1869, he died before I was born, so I never knew anything about him.

His name was James Barr, and mty father, also James, was his illegitimate son, although I think from what I have discovered, that my father must have known him, or at least the family.



I know now that grandfather married in 1896 to Sarah Boyd and they had several children, I am now trying to trace any descendants, is there anyone else researching this name? His parents were Neil Barr and Janet nee Cameron and the last address I had for them was 34 St Lawrence St Greenock, is that still there?

Hi Stillsearching, I'm new to the site and noticed your post because I too am looking for Camerons. Coincidentally I was in Greenock at the weekend visiting my elderly aunt and uncle. St Lawrence Street is still in Greenock. Here's a link to Google Maps showing it. Quite a lot of old Greenock was lost during WWII but there are still quite a few old buildings left. Quite a lot of the docks have been removed too due to development.
