Well this morning I went to town
Thought I'd have a look around
Got some veg and fetched my pension
(Tonight I'm cooking -so much tension !!)

Looked into charity shops
Could have shopped until I dropped
But I was good, kept spending small
Bought a cardigan that was all.

M & S, grey and fluffy
Then I got all hot and stuffy
Shops filled up with folk and so
I thought that I'd best homeward go

But not before I popped to see
What the craft shop had for me
Piece of paper -just the thing
To cover a sort of photo album thing.

Plaster said he might come back
But would ring first....no sign of that !
Social worker said the same
No phone call - (I'm muttering names !!)

Our oldest lad is not at work
He says 'day off' -I think he's shirked
His mates called round -now he's gone out
Strange they knew he'd be about !

Oh lor, young lad will be home
(And still no soc.worker on the phone)
He'll be happy - school is done
I'm not......for me it aint much fun !

So spare a little thought for me
With one 11 year old to please
And that age group - I've not a clue
Of what they like and what they do !

How beautiful it is to do nothing and rest afterwards...

Our young lad got up early
Forgot there was no school
Oldest lad off work again - says he's ill
Well I'm no fool.

He says he's an upset stomach
Methinks he tells a lie
Cos now they've both gone on the bus
Out for the day -seaside !

Before then he popped into town
Then he popped back home
With a job application form
Reasons are unknown.

Has he got the sack I wonder ?
Is it cos this jobs in town
Whats more its at an 'off license'
And his hours will be cut down

Instead of getting up at seven
And coming home at six
He'd be working nine to five
Four days a week - one sick !!

Cos ever since he started work
This lad of ours has had
A day off 'sick' least once a week
It really makes me mad !!

In fact this last job he's been at
His nickname was 'four days'
He said he'd start working five
Sort himself out, change his ways !

But no, it seems he hasn't
Oh well, it's up to him
But if he doesn't sort things out
Things could be pretty grim

At least for now I've got some peace
Some time that's just for 'me'
I'll talk to him when he comes back
Discussion over tea !

Bills not working -I'm not cooking
I've hoovered up the floor
Of plaster dust -then the hoover stopped
It felt like me - enough -no more !!

So now, I'll get my glue out
And my paper and have a go
At covering the book I got
For family tree photos !

The builder came again on Tuesday
Mixed his plaster up
Wet the wall, went back to it
It was rock solid, stuck !!
He struggled with his bucket
And turned it upside down
It came out like a sandcastle
He scratched his head and frowned !
The weather was so hot he thought
That just might be the trouble
So quickly he mixed up some more
Amid the bags of rubble

That he'd left there from weeks before
Said 'I'll chuck them in my skip'
Now just how long ago was that ?
I thought..........but bit my lip.
Cos this chap, he's so chirpy
And whats more -very cheap
So who am I to moan about
Some rubble in a heap ?

Well that was Tuesday, since then
We've not seen hide nor hair
Of our young builder chappie
Two more walls still bare !
Our oldest lad is still not working
Please don't ask my why
Cos I don't know and he won't say
But we should know tomorrow
If he goes to get his pay.

The weather's so hot, Bills poor head
Is throbbing with the heat
And so is mine, feels like a cushions
On my head, instead of a seat !
Been raining on and off all day
But not so you'd get wet
I've hung out washing, fetched it in
And its not dry, not yet.

Thunderstorms are forecast
At least thats what they say
But so far nothings happened
Clouds come, then go away !
I know I shouldn't moan about
The heat, it's summertime
We've waited oh so very long
For blue skies and sunshine

But there are limits, well for me
I'm not good in the heat
I like a happy medium
Just warm.........else I'm dead beat !
I 'glow' (thats lady's term for sweating)
Sleep ? No way - too hot
Honest, there's no pleasing me
Is there.......no 'fraid there's not !

Will agree Mary its is realy hot ,like you i glow

But winter long, dark, cold and even snow

I like though the different seasons

But like you say we all moan for different reasons

The hot weather does wear some out

Kids love it playing out and about

Its hard though feeling too cold

Rather be in ,not that bold

Oh and ice i always go a cropper

Bet yer nothing to grab or stop yer

I get more done too in winter darkness nights

Maybe tree will be finished yeaaa right

Hot or cold Chris, it's never right
Hate the heat and clammy nights
Hate the cold and and icy paths
I'm the first to slip on my a*** !!

But I like the changing seasons
All for various diifferent reasons
Spring is when the trees turn green
Summer - yes its that darned heat

Autumn, golden leaves that fall
Winter....... woolly jumpers all
Cardigans and nice warm hats
Great big coats -make me look fat !

Christmas..........pressies to sort
Towns lit up and food gets bought
Sit at home all cosy, warm
Christmas paper by now torn

The warm soft glow of candle light
Cos the electrics off - the bill too high !
All wrapped in a duvet together
Cos cant pay the gas.- oh *** the weather !!!!

My word - a week has gone by
And I've not wrote a verse
Well life here's been hectic
A small problem made it worse
Our young lad said - 'my ceiling
There's a hole, you come and see'
'Oh eck' says I 'well so there is'
'I'll ring the builder after tea'

I rang the builder -chirpy chap
And told him of my plight
'I'll be there Saturday morning'
(I forgot to ask what time !!)
The plasters old and crumbly
Don't want it to fall down
It really needs the whole thing doing
But it'd cost too many pounds !

Oldest lad, he's lost his job
He didn't go all week
Boss said 'you're fired' our lad
Was so gobsmacked he couldn't speak !!
But has he been jobhunting ?
Well he's only tried a few
Plasterer and Electrician
(wouldn't let him change my fuse !!)

Today he's gone off into town
With mates, they caught the bus
Plus side ? Least he''s room is tidy
He did it without a fuss !
Youngest lads out go-karting
So I've some time for me
Well, would have but the phone keeps ringing
(Why won't folk let me be ??)

Summer ? Well that's disappeared
Thunder storms we've had
Rain and rain and more rain
From t-shirts to coats and macs !!
Oh well, such is the weather
Control it ? No we can't
But there's a plus to everything
It's good for our veggie plants !!

I think Mary's done a runner
To where I do not know
Maybe with the plumber
with builders she would not go

Bill, I'm only joking
Our Mary won't be far
Probably outside smoking
Keeping away from Star

But eight days is a record
Not like Mary at all
I dare say she will soon be back
When the kids go back to school.

Well I noticed Mary's missing
But I didn't like to say
Though I would have done tomorrow
If she isn't back today.

I don't think she's in hiding,
From Star to keep away
She has no reason - that kind soul
Has no cross words to say.

Perhaps the plumber's dishy?
Or maybe it's all too much,
The weather and the ceiling hole,
And teenage boys, and such,

If so, she may have gone on strike,
Holed up in some quiet nook
Until her world is put to rights,
Engrossed in a good book.

But whatever the reason
I'm sure she'll be back soon ,
And then once more all will be well
In our wee poet's room.
