May Bank holiday Monday
And in our little town
A European Market's on
There was loads to look around

Bill bought a string of smoked garlic
Three cheeses for five pounds
Some mustard, sort of peppery
He liked it - I frowned

The charity shops opened
Of course I had to go
Two cushions, a planter and a picture
Under five pounds I'd blown !

The cushions they were tapestry
In rusts and shades of green
The planter was all made of wire
And painted all in cream.

The picture was a little one
On canvas......daffodil I think
Then I met up with Bill again
Needed something to drink.

One coffee and I headed home
To get out of the sun
It gives me such a headache
And really thats no fun.

Bill rolled home a while ago
Pierre, from a market stall
Said 'Have a drink - no have two'
Bill said 'just two, no more !'

But Pierre he wouldn't have it
Just as Bill prepared to go
The landlady said -'here's a beer
Pierre bought' - he couldn't say 'No' !

So now he's on the sofa
Watching snooker, when he should
Be doing something in the garden
Like he said he would.

Oh well, it's not that often
So I'll let him off, after all
He got some more mustard - free
From Pierre's market stall !

Tomorrow I am off to Mums
And maybe, while I'm gone
Bill just might do some gardening
Cos the sun's here all week long.

come to me my knight
shining so bright
eyes of the brightess blue
hair of the deepest black
in your arms i yearn to be
deepest love i feel for thee
to hear your voice
my heart rejoice
for one tender kiss from thee
forever in my heart you will be
for i know you are the one
you are my shining knight

On Wednesday I came back from Mums
On the bus, sweaty ? oh indeed yes !
As the sun came pouring through the glass
On the bus.........wish I'd worn a summer dress !!

Mum was asleep, well most of the time
When she woke, she said not a lot
Smiled now and then asked for her specs
Not realising she'd got them on !!

Since I got back I've been busy
Well, sort of.....my old cupboard doors
In the kitchen were looking somewhat depressed
The colour wash on them was worn.

They looked tired and drab, like I felt
So I went out and bought some paint -green
Now they're lively and bright, and, yes, I could say
They're looking impeccably clean !!!!!

Surprising what one coat of paint can achieve
The larder cupboard is next
Green it will be, all gleaming, like new
And matching in with all the rest.

Oh dear me this rhyme isn't going so well
My words are all over the place
'Next' don't rhyme with 'rest' -what's up with me ?
This poem's becoming a disgrace !!

Think I'd better shut up and quickly
Before it gets worse............I'll get gone
Have a coffee and fag.....get my head together
Before this all drags on too long...............................:conf used:

The sky was blue, the sun came out
The local boot fair beckoned
Round came my mate and off we went
To get bargains we reckoned.

And bargains there were plenty
Then I thought - best not !
The bank statement came Friday
Can't spend what I've not got !

So I by-passed the set of shelves
All painted green with flowers
And didn't ask about the mirror
We seemed to walk for hours.........

I saw a rug and asked the price
'£5 to you' he said
I thought .....yes and to anyone else
So I bought a plant instead.

Much as I loved the large cream rug
Edged with flowers in rust
The plant was half the price and sort of said
'Buy me.......you must !'

So then I bought some more plants
White 'snowflakes' .........then I saw
Some pretty trailing red flowers
And so I spent some more !

But then I stopped and thought a bit
No more........it has to stop
I've spent a tenner......well almost
And the sun was getting hot !

My mate was loaded down with stuff
And one thing was for me
A bargain is there ever was
A slow-cooker..........for free !!

My mate's sister had got one
And been bought one so had two
She said 'I've got no use for it
I've brought it just for you'

So all in all, I didn't spend much
But felt I'd spent a lot
With plants and a slow cooker
Felt I'd shopped until I'd dropped.

Got home and next door neighbours
Were basking in the sun
And creasoting fences.....
'Made some coffee..........do you want one?'

I popped round to their garden
(Much tidier than mine)
They'd been so busy - even got
Some washing on the line !

Me ? I'd got a heap to do
The basket overflowed
With t-shirts, bedding, skirts and jeans
I said 'Thanks.....got to go !'

So now my washing, thats all done
But our fence that needs some paint
(Or green stain, whatever its called)
Well sadly, done it ain't !

'Tomorrow ?' Bill said 'maybe'
I've heard that one before
Tomorrows that day that never comes
Just my luck - Murphy's law !!

I looked at my local History site
My Dad's on the world wide web !
If he were here, this new found fame
Might have gone to his head !!

Photos he'd have wanted
With Dad and smiles galore
Well sorry Dad, it's just a small piece
But I promise, they'll be more !

But just now I'm painting his old tray
I wiped it with a duster
And put some paint on -mint green
Next ......... forget-me-nots in clusters

Think that will be tomorrow
This tray will need three coats
Of paint I mixed.......hope I don't run out !
I want his tray on show.

It's been hidden for many years
I never new - Mum said
It was almost forgotten
And was just shoved in the shed.

I can't have that - Dads work of art
The only thing he made
Just has to be in full view
And permanently displayed.

Though where I've not a clue as yet
I'll have to make some space
It won't be easy - I've so much stuff
But Dads tray will have it's place

Three coats of paint are dry now
And so, with trembling hands
I'll tackle stencilling tomorrow
Just for my old Dad

Forget me nots -I'm pretty sure
My Dad would approve of them
I mustn't smudge the paint - Oh No !
I'd have to do it all again !!

I thought I'd have a go tonight
But Bill suggested not
He said 'I've smelt enough paint thanks
I think it's time to stop !'

So bear with me tomorrow
As I mess with shades of blue
And green, to get these flowers right
It's a tricky thing to do !

Dads tray I fear is still not done
The builder came today
And with the banging and the dust
My nerves began to fray !

Then I put the washing on
I'd just sat down - I cursed !
I heard a drip, the floor was flooded
Could the day get any worse ?

I mopped the floor -(at least its clean)
And rang the repair man
He didn't ring back - Bill couldn't fix it
Our builder said -'I can !'

He fiddled round the back of it
And messed about with pipes
Mumbled something had come loose
Least thats what it sounded like.

He then surveyed the ceiling
There's a hole, it's in the lounge
In fact there's two.......he scratched his head
'That ceilings coming down !'

'Oh no' said I, looking dismayed
And thinking of the mess
'I'll do it in a day' says he
By now I''m feeling stressed !

This chappie's day is more like two
And all this builders dust
I've smelt & tasted, but if need be
A new ceiling's a 'must' !

At least I've got tomorrow free
To tidy up a bit
But is it worth it I wonder
Cos it still seems like a tip.

There's chunks of plaster off the wall
That's not done till next week
Cos' the brickwork all needs treating
And there's muck all round my feet !

I clear up with the hoover
Next day it's there again
As in he comes, with trowel and bucket
And I slowly count to ten !

But, bless him, he's a good chap
I keep him supplied with tea
And who knows, by the weekend
I just might feel more like 'me'

And get my paints out, make a start
On mixing shades of blue
And finish Dad's tray, then find somewhere
It can be on view !

I had a kind of shock today
From our webmaster Jon
It seems I've been and got from him
A bright new shiny gong !!

Tut Jon ! Something else for me to clean
You know 'bout me and dusters
How just the very sight of them
Makes me all a fluster !!

But polish it I surely will
So it's all shiny bright
Oh eck, that's two I've got now
Can see I'll be up all night !!!

Good job that I told myself
I'd put my paints away
And finish off my painting
Of flowers on my Dads tray.

Two days I've spent doing it
I painted them myself
Stencils didn't look right so
They're boxed up on the shelf.

Forget me nots the flowers should be
But I'm not sure that's true
Still, they're small flowers all done
In a pretty shade of blue.

Dad would smile, say 'well done gal'
But now,what shall I do ?
Where do I put my 'masterpiece' ?
I've no idea............have you ?

Cos if you have, please tell me
Remember, I've not much space
Cos my house is full of clutter
So It's hard to find a place.

I'll scratch my head and think -there
Must be somewhere it belongs
Meantime I'll get the brasso out
And polish up my gong !!!
