Ten cats were sitting on a hill
Waiting there for me to kill
A pumkin there was close at hand
To send them to the promised land
Ten more appeared upon the hill
Sitting nicely, very still
Two strikes then added to my tally
On this halloween bowling alley
Now Mary said this was for kids
But I just think she's telling fibs
If you think I'm full of gloom
Try Mary's game in the coffee room

Wink Re: own poems

Haven't had a poem to write
for a week or more
heads been in a bit of a tizz
for one reason or more

Hoping to get through this black patch
that i don't normally have
so maybe soon i'll be right back
and have another laugh

sorry this is dreary
i'm feeling oh so weary
but weary never solved a thing
So i best get flippin cheery

sorry guys...........had to get me feelings out

Oh Mollie, sorry to hear you're down
Now you know that won't do
Take weary away and that dreary
Cheery's more like you.

I'm sat here ......kids upstairs
Kicking up a racket
X Box and Playstation Two
(Now they want crisps -how many packets????)

So I'm fitting this in where I can
Family History ? Just can't think
It just ain't easy..........not at all
(Oh eck......now they want a drink!)

I'm plodding on with Souldrop village
Not getting very far
I've been on walks all round that place
(Better than going by car !)

I've seen the sights, all courtesy
Of a chap and his 'walking pages'
I know now just what route he took
Poor soul...........it took him ages.

He's done a sort of diary
Of his walk........blisters he got
Then he says he felt quite ill
Got to Bedford......said 'That's my lot !'

But I've found there is a beacon
On Souldrop village green
With a verse on - now that's new
Or least something I've not seen.

So I told Bill next Springtime
We'll pay my Dad a call
(He's in the churchyard - say a quick 'Hello')
(Oh eck.....someone's at the door !)

I'd better go.....these bloomin' kids
There's not two now........there's three !
So I'll stop now and file away
My precious family tree !

I set the clocks especially
To gain that extra hours sleep
Blissful in the 'land of nod'
I thought.............but no......not me !

The sun came through the windows
First time for a while
With plans to get some history sorted
Get my family filed !

But sunshine and blue skies outside
This I couldn't waste
Out I went with trowel in hand
Set plants out - (with good taste)

Some blue pansies in an old brass pot
Sweet williams here and there
A hanging basket with violas
Next my flower tubs -oh I glared !

Weeds had grown in numbers
I pulled with all my might
To get them out of my flower tubs
But they'd set themselves in tight.

A bigger trowel was needed
Out they came - oh I was cross !
How dare they invade my flowertubs
I'd show them who was boss !

Now weeds I don't mind really
They can fill up big gaps
And if they flower they're quite pretty
But these ? Their time had lapsed !

Bill came out -surveyed my work
Nodded - said 'now time to stop
Before you do your back in'
(Must admit it ached & throbbed)

Bill said he'd better paint the gates
With wood preserving stuff
A shade of green that's much better
Than that awful brown/beige stuff.

He slopped it on with gusto
Then swore.......I said 'what you done?'
'Splashed it down my legs' says he
'These jeans............they were clean on !'

'Well,' I says 'how daft it that?
If you're using wood stain
It makes sense to put old ones on
What happened to your brain ?'

Half way through he packed it in
Said 'That's it, well for today
One of the boys can finish it
They looked and said 'no way !'

Quickly they ran out the door
'It's opening time ' said Bill
So my gates are only half done
And my flower tubs are half filled !

I thought I'd have a quiet day
One that's free of stress
With one lad back at college
The other at Skegness.

I settled down quite comfortably
Logged on - just for a while
Then there was a knock at the door
I was greeted with a smile.
'
There was a lad with bright purple hair
Spiked up like a kind of star
'I've come to start your drive'
He said 'give you a decent path'.

Well last time he called - was Friday
He was wearing a woolly hat
I forgot he'd said he'd come today
Typical.......I'm such a daft bat !

He gave me such a start he did
But credit where it's due
He's worked hard all day on my drive
Cleaning the slabs there 'cos they'll do.

My neighbour laid them down last year
But it never was completed
Which is why this lad turned up today
And with purple hair I was greeted !

The cost ? Well it's a hundred quid
But well worth all those pounds
Cos I'm fed up with my driveway
Looking like some waste ground !

So, that's been my day so far
Not much more to say
Now I'm off to sort out dinner
(My turn to cook today !!)

You won't Chris - you'll never be done
When you think you are -up pops another one
A rellie from thousands of miles away
Will suddenly appear to you one day.

Files all in order........they will come out
Papers re-written - shuffled about
Birth certs, marriages, census galore !
You'll tear out your hair and say -please -no more !

But they'll keep on coming again and again
Numbering from two to two hundred and ten
Lists of names, spelt (maybe mispelt sometimes)
But they'll yours, be sure of it all in a line.

You'll count them, and then maybe do a re--count
Check the dates - was that right? - that's when you'll doubt
And say 'who are these folk - like cuckoos in my tree?'
Then alarm bells will ring - you'll realise it was a dream !

Oh Mary, you did make me laugh
And I can't wait to see
When the piles of census papers
Do not reach Chris' Knees.

She can then search through Norfolk
Where her rellies tend to be
Among those mistranscribed names
Who done it. Twas not me.

Sorry Chris, couldn't resist it.

No time today to look up rellies
I Thought I might but no
Our purple haired lad came again
But it rained so he had to go.
Then next door neighbours daughter
Needed some homework done
So she took over the computer
I was left on my own with no-one !
One lad had gone to Skegness again
The other to college he went
His homeless mate normally calls
(He's the one who lives in a tent)
He's today gone to see about Housing
Don;t know how many times this has been
The Council -well, all they say to him
is 'Sorry, can't help you' it seems.
Its cold, it was windy, depressing
Oh eck-not on my own any more
Our lad's back from college -music so loud
Thundering right through the floor !
Now his homeless mate has arrived
'Can I have a wash' he asked me
'Course you can' says I and after that
'Stay with us and have some tea'
He smiled-this poor lad has no-one
And nothing he can call his own
Why is it some folk have everything
And some with not even a home ?
Now where my mum lives has been done up
The main lounge been carpeted through
The old carpet and all the furniture
Has been slung out -replaced - brand new !
Mum says she expects now that things will go up
To pay for this major expense
Activities once free will be paid for
By Mum and other residents.
They didn't ask for a new carpet
The chairs they thought they were ok
But no doubt a 'man in a suit' made decisions
And they'll be left with the bill to pay.

On that note I'll shut up cos I'm getting cross
And I don't want to become a bore
Getting on my high horse - moaning & groaning
So that's that...............I won't winge no more !

Sorry............one thing led to another with that one...........lol
Got it out my system though
