Wink Re: own poems

I wondered where the poems room went
when i logged in tonight
but now I see it has been polished
and shining oh so bright

So here we go on another turn
of words and rhymes and such
lets keep it up we all enjoy it
very very much

I have no tale to tell today
of very much importance
had family duties to perform
I wish i was adopted

Now Mary dear you must stop
this life of crime you lead
stealing bags from ladies
with all their worldly needs

Do hand it back now
before she rings the law
or we gonna be visiting
and bringing you a saw

Whatever can be the matter with me ?
For I'm making a terrible mess of my tree.
It's really quite simple, anybody could do it,
And I started off well, but then somehow I blew it.

If you talk about gedcom I'll get in a tiz
For I havn't the foggiest idea what that is,
So I'm putting the names in by hand, one by one,
And its going to be wonderful when its all done.

Which ain't going to happen just yet, I'm afraid
For I'm always correcting mistakes that I've made
I keep thinking I've got it all sorted, but then
Find the resident gremlin's been at it again.

He moves names around like you wouldn't believe,
And that's not the only trick kept up his sleeve
He'll duplicate people already in place
When he knows what a pain they will be to erase.

He's put sons into spaces where daughters should be
And vice versa, but I was most furious to see
His worst piece of mischief, the top of the list - er
One lady is named as her very own sister!

In the computer he sits there and gloats
Watching me struggle with printouts and notes,
Working my way, all because of his games
Down generations, deleting the names.

Well. I guess you're not fooled, so I'd better confess -
Ive no-one to blame but myself for this mess.
I'm careless , or stupid, that's why things go wrong,
And there's no gremlin really - it's me all along !

Molly I won't steal again
I promise..........well not today
Cos a man's coming to mend the fence
What time? He didn't say.

Now anny......don't get all upset
That a gremlins at your tree
I've been there.....got the t-shirt
So take a tip from me.

Computers ? Never trust them.
Cos they were made by man
Especially to drive us mad
In every way they can.

I've committed 'fatal errors'
Get 'Page cannot be displayed'
(Always the one I really want!)
Downloads ? Them I hate !

Adobe reader ? Forget that
Cos a pop up box tells me
To agree to 'terms,payments, conditions'
Although it says it's free !

As for my tree, if I find a rellie
I print off straight away
So I've got it here in black & white
From me it can't escape !

I've lists galore of those 'don't knows'
And some of 'fairly sure'
But at least they're tucked safely away
In my 'oddments' drawer.

So get your pen and paper out
And write down what you find
It's yours then -never to be lost
(Plain paper or lined)

Then you can say to those Gremlins
'Go on then - do your worst
Mess with my rellies if you must my
I beat you - got them first

Chris - you're getting regular
Always popping in
Reading what we write about
Having a little grin.
Hope your dinner went okay
Despite your hubby's cold
Let's face it, men are the Worlds worst
Not a cold - it's flu we're told.
Headaches ? If I get 'em
I simply take a pill
And get on with my daily life
But men ? No ! Least not Bill !
'Have a tablet ' I tell him
'No' he says 'it'll go away
Then he'll spend his time groaning
Nothing gets done that day !
Men !! The bane of all our lives
What did we do to deserve this?
A set of shelves that aren't quite straight
Washing ? Bill's socks I wouldn't miss !
But whatever faults they have
Me and you Chris - we're well fed
So best not dwell on those too much
Some things are best unsaid !

My Mum's lost her Chiropodist
Steve's his name she said
Two weeks ago he should have called
But didn't - and he gets paid !

He's private -not the Nhs
(The waiting lists too long)
So someone found this chap for her
But who is he ? Where's he from ?

Mum's not a clue, I asked the Doctor
He said try the Care Home
They said try the Hospital
And they said 'We don,t know!'

My brother said 'it wasn't me
Maybe the Doctor .....' I said
I tried him and he said 'No'
Now I'm surfing the Web.

Well all the ones I've found so far
They're certainly not Steve
They're Becky, Janet, Jane & Val
Mum's wrong I do believe.

But do I tell her ? Have her think
She's going off her head ?
She's positive his name was Steve
A man she clearly said.

Shall I just might book someone
And ask them to pretend
They work with Steve but he's away
So they'll see Mum instead.?

Will she believe that ? I wonder
She ain't that daft, my Mum
No.............best be honest, tell her
Steve just can't be found -he's gone.

But oh it's done my head in
Phone calls, trying to sort it out
Mum phoning 'Have you found Steve yet?'
(Why does she have to shout?)

So Becky is next on my list
If not her maybe Jane
If she's busy Val or Janet
Then I'll keep hold of their name.

Then next time my Mum tells me
Her Chiropodist's called Steve
I can honestly say 'No way Mum'
And not have all this grief !

I've been trawling through my poems
Since this little room began
I haven't re-read all of them
But I will when I can.

I thought I'd just remind myself
Of how I felt and when
And what I did and so on
(I've printed more than ten)

Some of them I thought
My Mum would like to see
Might cheer her up on a dull day
Well they brought a smile to me.

There's some about my wedding
Some 'bout the kid's we've got
Some about the plumber
Who caused more leaks than not !

There's a few about the weather
And how I felt fed up
And couldn't get my gardening done
And felt I'd had enough.

There's some about the football
World Cup if you remember
Then some about me seeing Mum
Last year and this September.

Oh the list goes on and on
It's gonna take me ages
To sift through them, one by one
And print off all the pages.

I've now come to a standstill
At least for now I think
Cos I've done so much my printer
Is now running out of ink !

So now I'd better sort out
My Mum's chiropodist
She's said to get another
So I'll start top of my list.

There's bound to be one somewhere
Who's got some time that's free
Else her toe nails will be that long
They'll measure three foot three !

I trawled through some more poems
And forgotten where I'd got
I've printed out so many
But there's loads that I've forgot.

Oh eck, there's hundreds of them
My head-it will explode
Not mention the printer
Working on overload !

Oh well, for now I'll have a break
To the doctors I must go
He wants to check my Epilepsy
Why ? I just don't know.

It's never bothered him before
But now I've had a letter
Something about 'improving things
Making the NHS better'

Long as he don't mess around
And change my medication
Cos I'm ok -have been for years
Don't need no alterations.

We'll see.......I expect it's all just forms
Of the Question-tick box kind
A quick 'Yes-No-Sometimes'
And that'll do me fine !
