Willie Nelson wrote the song that's playing in my head
All day it has been going round and round
And all day I've been singing the enchanting story of
The angel flying too close to the ground.

Though I love all his music, being a fan, and truly stricken
This is the song I love the best of all those he has written.
I have it on cds, of course, but never hoped to hear
The Legend sing it live on stage, and almost shed a tear
Last night in Glasgow at his concert, when he sang 'my song ',
And my cup ran over as I quietly hummed along.

The story is so touching, and the musicis so sweet,
His singing and his playing combine so well
Telling of the angel who flew carelessly too low
And whom he found and rescued when she fell.

He takes her in, and heals her wounds with medicine, and with love,
The greatest healer, he says, to be found
Knowing the day will come when she is going to fly away,
His angel who flew too close to the ground.

He tells her she's free, when she needs to, to leave,
And fly back whence she came, but we know he will grieve.
All his days he'll remember the angel he found
Who broke her wing flying too close to the ground.

The tape is still playing it there in my mind
I hope it stops soon, otherwise I might find
That it starts to get boring, which would be such a shame -
Tell me, how can you switch off a tune on the brain ?

Hey ho, and fiddle de dee
I'll have to try again, I see.
Don't know when Mary's coming back,
But this room's kind of empty, alas and alack.
And when she returns, the first thing she'll do
Is come here in search of a poem or two.
Well, my last attempt was pretty damn poor,
But I don't seem to be inspired any more.
The poetry comes, and the poetry goes,
That's just the way it is, I suppose
And you can't bring it back if the Muse aint there,
Unless you're Mary, for I declare
Our Petal's a treasure, a marvel, a gem
Whose verses trip off the tip of her pen.
She don't sit and wait for any old muse
There's words and ideas of her own she can use.
She'll write you a verse at the drop of a hat,
Off the top of her head, and how clever is that ?
And what's more, she does it day after day
And the thread's only empty when she goes away,
So forgive me, Mary, if I insist,
But hurry home, please, 'cos you're sorely missed.

Cheers Anny....how do you do it ?
Your rhymes are brilliant stuff
I dont know how you do it
So clever, off the cuff.

And Chris it's good to see you hear
And great to hear Shan's back
Those Pendereds I wanted her to find.....
Only kidding Shan.....I won;t do that !!

It's good to be back in the fold
My bus journey I won't discuss
But though the trip was long and boring
It was cheap.....so I'll make no fuss.

Mum is well and cheerful
Had me running everywhere
But in between the things she did
I was happy to share.

And I've now cooked an omelette !
My first.......a compete mistake
Was meant to be a scrambled egg
But turned out flat....like a plate.

Mum's microwave it dead modern
The singing/dancing kind
I beat the egg and popped it in
And an omelette I did find !

But all chopped up Mum ate it
Said it was very nice
But I'll not be trying that again
Once a fluke......not twice !

Today I woke up.....left Bill in bed
He's a touch of 'man flu' poor thing
So I hot footed it down to our local chemist
Some medicines to fetch home for him !

Strepsils and tyrozets (they're for his throat)
Beechams capsules and sudafed
He gobbled two Beechams as quick as he could
To relieve his poor old blocked up head.

Then when he got up he felt like fresh air
'I'll take a stroll down town' said he
I thought to myself.......oh yes.....via the pub
I was right.................got him off to a tee !

Back he came later, somewhat refreshed
But this 'Man Flu' hits blokes quite bad
It has the effect of rendering them useless
And medicines ? They're not to be had !

Apart from the Beechams the rest are still there
The Strepsils.........he says they're too sweet
Tyrozets for the throat ? They never work
But alcohol........that can't be beat !

Seems its the one cure for this 'Man Flu'
But some symptoms -they still persist
And the male is reluctant to do anything
And there on the sofa he sits.

He sneezes, then grunts and groans loudly
'Oh my throat/head/ears and blocked nose
But should women get this wee virus
The effect is just what you'd suppose.

The female continues to carry out duties
Daily chores get done without a moan
Medication is taken - no quibbling there
And she keeps to herself any groans.

So you see now you know which species is tops
Is it he who coughs/groans/moans/splutters/frowns ?
Oh ooops ! I'd best be careful what I say.......
Bill's busily cooking my dinner now !

Oh what a day it started off
Once Jack Frost had gone
With blue skies and bright sunlight
Worries ? I had none !

Can't count Bill and his 'Man flu
So far today no groaning
Apart from now and then reminding me
With a cough followed by moaning !

Then I heard the news today
Bird Flu was the main topic
Somewhere in Suffolk on a farm
Poor birds....they're gonna cop it !

Tests are being done they say
To see if we might catch
This dreaded flu type virus
Oh eck.....Bill !!!! Do the symptoms match ??

Then Pauline told us the Seacat
That sails from the Isle of Man
Collided with another boat
In the Mersey...........(bet that wasn't planned!)

I thought about our Mollie
Was she stood there -arms oustretched
With some bloke playing Leonardo de Caprio
To her Kate Winslett ?

Oh then there's global warming
What'll happen to Skegness
When icebergs melt -sea levels rise
It will be in a mess !

Skegness will become Atlantis
(That underwater place)
Horncastle will become Skegness
A prospect I can't face !

Blokes with hankies on their heads
To keep off the baking sun
Kids screaming ' I want. I want !!'
To their poor old worn out Mum.

Our house will be a B & B
(Not much difference there !)
Except that lodgings won't be free
They'll pay up, fair and square.

But that won't happen -not yet
And Mollie ? She's ok
But this Bird flu......well that's a worry
Until later today.

The shopping been delivered
Imagine how I freaked
When I saw a frozen chicken
That's to eat some time next week !!

Think I'll go vegetarian
You can't catch much from greens
So for me it's a plate of carrots
Parsnips, cabbage & runner beans !

All this worry about Bird flu
The 'men in suits' say 'No
The birds may have it but not you
If you're careful what you do.

Don;t mess with wild birds in the garden
Make sure you're chicken's cooked
And you should have no problem'
Hope there's nothing overlooked !

Bills 'Man flu' that seems better
He's had all the Beechams Pills
Had to get some more.....not cheap
This lark of being ill !

Skegness wont be underwater yet
But oh dear.....the place is cursed !
It's getting a gambling casino
Like Las Vegas only worse !!

Weren't the endless one armed bandits
That rob folk of their dough
Enough for this small seaside town ?
The 'men in suits' say 'No !'

They've got a lot to answer for
These little 'men in suits'
We're scared to death to eat our meat
Cos it's all mass produced !

This year the Council Tax will rise
Now we've got Wheelie Bins
We sort the rubbish -not the council
They just count the cash and grin !

They'll say its all to help the cost
Of the bins and their new lorry
With automatic lifting gear
So the bin men don't have to worry.

What happened to those days old
And the dustbins we once had ?
No bin bags, bins with wheels on
Were they really all that bad ?

Before the 'men in suits' decided
'Oh dear......dirt - we cant have that'
And issued us with bin bags
To be savaged by our cats !

Then wheelie bins took over
Black and green and grey
And trying to remember which is for what
And when's collection day ?

And does it really do some good ?
Will it make the climate change ?
And will the 'men in suits' ever
Fix our antiquated drains ?

Oh well that's my moan over
Well for today at least
Whatever we do - the 'men in suits' win
It's the nature of the beast.

She wants to trace my ancestors
And build her family tree!

Will try my best, for certain!
