The snows all gone away now
Been bright sunshine all day
Our gardening lad (called Jason)
Has been beavering away.

I went out to the wheelie bin
The lid was frozen shut
Then I nearly went flying
(I said more than 'tut tut' !)

But later on as it warmed up
And outside I went to play
With Jason in the garden
(Tried not to get in his way)

We moved some tubs here and there
Pulled up a weed or two
They shouldn't still be growing
But they are........geraniums too !

The kids were playing music
'Least that's what they call it !
And hoovering their bedrooms !
That's a shock I must admit !

All seems well in my little world
No phone call from my Mum
Wittling about the weather
Saying 'when did you say you'd come?'

Now one lad's off on Saturday
Birmingham his destination
So Monday I'm off to see Mum
(change at Peterborough bus station)

I'm taking grandma's locket
With me and big bruv inside
Just like she's always wanted us
Smiling, side by side.

I'm staying at my friends house
Instead of the B & B
That should save a quid or two
Cos my poor purse is empty !

Now dinner's in the oven
Chicken with a jar of sauce
To serve on a bed of pasta
And will be served in due course.

Didn't feel like writing yesterday
I was really quite depressed
A young lad who lived here once
Came to see me.....very stressed.

He'd not been outside his flat for months
His sleep pattern reversed
He was getting up at night-time
Going to bed with the dawn chorus.

Jason (Our purple haired gardener)
Is this lad's real good mate
He knew he wasn't well and needed help
Before it was too late.

Alas I was no use at all
I felt a total flop
Thank goodness Jason took the reins
I just wept.....couldn't stop.

We must have cried a river
Me and this poor lost soul
While Jason got appointments made
(He's worth his weight in gold!)

He sorted Phsychiatric Assessment
After seeing the GP
Court dates that were missed -he sorted too
(I felt it should have been me !)

For a lad so young he's so 'together'
Panic ? No.....not he
Me and our lad....we just managed
To make a cup of tea !

I did ring social services
To see if they could help
But no-one seemed that bothered
He's left care now.... bottom shelf !

Before all this, our new lad
Was brought the remainder of his things
But some were still missing he said
Then the shouting did begin.

Out in the street, such carryings on
I dragged him inside quick
As he shouted and he swore at the chap
Said he'd get a big stick !

Eventually he walked out
(He does this to calm down)
While I was left to pacify
His old carer who'd brought stuff round.

By tea-time my head was buzzing
Our lad.........he had gone home
Both the other boys were out
So I was left alone.

No shoulder there to lean on
And no tears left to weep
But thankfully I could come here
Then found I couldn't speak.

Couldnt make a poem up
Words, they wouldn't come
And I worried that this lad might need me
While I'm away to see my Mum.

But today I feel much better
The sun is shining bright
And wheels are set in motion
To give back our lad his life.

I'm sorry if this verse seems sad
It's not what's meant to be
But it's good to talk (or so they say)
Certainly is for me !

Mary,

Sorry you had such a crappy day yesterday....make no wonder you weren't in a poem writing mood.

I'm glad to hear things have improved over night....& the lad concerned is starting to get the help he needs. "Depression" can be a very lonely place, although with someone to hold your hand, it makes everything a little bit less scary!

Get me off this computer
I've stuff I need to do
Like wash my hair, my fringe is too long
Ooops now my type's all blue !

Get me away from this machine
The washing machine's still full
With the stuff I did early this morning
Someone give me a push or a pull !

Stop me from being attached too this thing
Boot be off............anything......please
Cos this has gone too far.....no wonder
I'm wearing out all of my keys !

Tell me to go away, tell me 'buzz off'
Cancel my membership........oh no !
I take that bit back.......I'd never survive
If I hadn;t this place to go.

But I've got to get off here I must
It's an illness.............I need help..Ive gone pale !
What did I do in the days before lap tops
And web sites and google and e mail ?

Please tell me to go...I wont be upset
I'll take it in the nicest way
And I'll come back tomorrow- but not until
I've done what I should have today.

But what about tomorrow Chris
I'll log on here I know
And will I wash my hair and stuff
I think the answer's 'No !'

Oh spare a little thought
Just one.......Chris please
I need help ......oh bum
The N's come off my keys !!

You see what happens don't you
For these I paid three quid
Stick on keys -the others faded
With the typing that I did.

I'll have to ring Kleeneze now
And say 'get me some more
Cos at this rate I'll replace them
Every week...........if not before !

Ok Chris I'll do as I'm told
Tomorrow will be housework day
Hoover upstairs and then down
Before I go away.

Wash hair and then cut my fringe
Work out what to pack
Sort out papers lurking there
Behind my letter rack.

Bath, trim toe nails, varnish
My fingernails, I might
Heavens.....I might even moisturise !
Bill will get a fright !

I could present a whole new me
By the time that I am done
And he'll wonder who this woman is
Who's gone to see my Mum !

I've washed my hair & trimmed my fringe
Bill said 'hooovering ?' don't bother
'I'll sort it out after you've gone
On the bus to see your mother'

I've more or less got sorted
What to pack & what to wear
But the weather outside's looking grim
Expect it's the same elsewhere.

Oh well, I'll not be gone for long
Though it'll seem an age to me
I'll spend half my time on buses
Getting cramp and cold in my knees

I;m taking an good book to read
'Bout working on the land
So that might wile away the hours
While at the bus station I stand.

Going isn't too bad though
I've just half hour to wait
Coming back is hour and a half
I've no choice....or I'll be late.

With only one bus coming home
I have to be on time
Why don't the bus companies realise
Then I'd have no cause to whine.

There's not even a cafe
Just a booth for coffee and tea
In an awful polystyrene cup
No warm and comfy seat.

To have a fag I have to go
Outside.......come wind or rain
Like a leper in the wilderness
(It's better on the train!)

But British Rail....they like money
Lots of it, by the ton
So I'll travel cheap with my pensioners ticket
On Nation Express to Mums.

Oh dear I am a moaning minny
I've got to stop and smile
After all, I'll be back Thursday
So it's only a little while.

While I;m away -you lot of bards
Get rhyming in this room
Cos this is it from me today
So 'Bye bye' -I'll be back real soon.
