Thread: Wiltshire apprentice records

I have the index to surviving Wiltshire apprentice records and am willing to do look-ups. Not all parishes are covered but it is worth a try! They typically give the name of the apprentice, age, who apprenticed to and the trade.

Please be prepared to wait a couple of weeks - they are on fiche so I have to go to the library to look at them

Hi Gillian,
I would be very grateful if you could look for my great-great-grandfather John Pitt who was born around 1820 +/- 3years. He became a Stone Mason, so preumably did an apprenticeship starting anytime between 1829 and 1835. He was born in Chelworth, so probably in Crudwell or Cricklade.
I have a feeling he was illegitimate, so Pitt may not have been his legal surname - but it may be that the person he was apprenticed to was his father, another John Pitt. I have been stuck on him for 15 years now, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
