Hi I can do lookups 1851 for this area only
Hi Starlight,
This is a clutching at straws exercise. I have just started this branch of my family and have no idea which part of Ireland they came from. So I am starting an elimination process. Could you please see if you can find a William Reilly/Riley born abt 1819/21 he married a Mary Mackin born 1826/9 around 1851/3. Thank you for your time.
best wishes
Maggie

Hi Maggie T,
There are quite a few REILLY's but no Riley. However there is only one William. He is in Craigs Townland, Antrim but he is only 13 and still attending school. It is possible that not all Antrim is on there yet.
Hi Starlight,
Thank you for taking the trouble to do a look up. I have added the info to my files you never know what might turn up at a later date. Wouldn't life be much easier if the enumerators had recorded the place of birth for everyone?
Thanks again
best wishes
Maggie

hi starlight
im looking for a thomas ballans who marries a catherine he would have been born around 1851 or a bit earlier, dont know where in ireland he is from but this would eliminate antrim
thanks ///// toeboe
Hi Toeboe,
Sorry there are no Ballans on this list.
I tried to find Irish census at Ancestry.com and FamilySearch.org without any success....at least, not for my Ledwitches. can you tell me if there's any Irish census available for research or look-ups? I'm looking outside of your area, but being fairly unskilled in Irish research (I've done plenty in England and America, not much elsewhere, though not for lack of trying!)
thanks for your direction and guidance in this.
Hi Neko,
Researching ancestors in Ireland is very difficult. Most of the censuses before 1901 have been destroyed, mainly by fire. There are fragments which have survived but these are only a fraction of the original records.
The best known Irish Census substitute is Griffith's Valuations which is a list of renters and owners or property.
I have added a link to the Links and tips forum. Just put "Ireland census" in the search engine on the far top right of the forum.
thank you, Starlight,
that's sad. I've been wistful over the American 1890 census, which would have solved a few problems I have with my German ancestors, but the Australian and Irish losses, as well as the WWII period for England, are far greater.
Hey Star,
Would there happen to be any Brabazon's on that list of yours??
