Hello, Maggie,
I am new to this site, and noticed your two years old offer to look up Aysgarth parish records. If the offer still holds, I'm looking for information about my sixth great-grandfather, a William MOORE born c.1735, dying after 1761 in Lythe. I know only that his spouse was Frances "old Francis", born c.1740 in the North Riding, and died in Lythe after 1761. Their son John Moore born c.1760 emigrated to the state of Virginia USA before 1784 and their son Oliver 'Olive' Moore emigrated before 1792 to Kentucky, USA.
It's precious little to go on and perhaps too general for consideration, in which case thank you just the same, as I close with best wishes.

Cheers
Hi Gary
I have looked in the PRs for Aysgarth and Askrigg and I am sorry but I have not found your William's birth/marriage/death. I will have another look later on today and of course if I have missed them I will get back to you asap.
Good luck with your search
best wishes
Maggie
Thank you, Maggie, I have my fingers crossed. I often find digging up data more difficult when my shovel requires too long a handle.
Hi Maggie
I am another new user to ancestryaid, hoping you can help break down a 'brick wall'. I have an ancestor Lydia Metcalfe who was born in Aysgarth around 1809 and am hoping she is mentioned in your records.
thanks
Geoff
Hi
Don't know how much you know about your "brick wall" and Maggie will most probably be able to help you through the parish records but there is a Lydia Metcalfe who marries a Benjamin Akrigg on 29 August 1829 Garsdale, Yorkshire on IGI. Tracing her through to the census records it is possible that this is your girl as she is born in Aysgarth and is of the right age.
They go on to have 11 children
Robert 1829 - James 1831 - Margaret 1833 - John 1835 - Agnes 1838 - Benjamin 1840 - Sarah 1842 - Catherine 1844 - Ann 1846 - Mary 1847 - Michael 1850.
She died in Westmorland on 29 June 1877 10b p319.
Hi Gary
On IGI there is a marriage between William Moor and Frances Vickerman on 28 Nov 1758 in Speckling with Burstwick, Yorkshire and the birth of a Frances Vicarman C: 4 April 1736 in Speckling with Burstwick, Yorkshire - father's name Francis.
Don't know if they are your William and Frances but might be worth checking out!![]()
Thanks GenieGenie,
Lydia Metcalfe and Benjamin Akrigg are indeed my 3 x Gt Grandparents. I had also got as far as the information you have kindly provided. What I am hoping is that the Parish records for Aysgarth contain Lydia's christening and therefore her parents' names.
regards
Geoff
Hi Geoff
Guessed that was what you were after!
Just as a point of interest wondered if you had noted that on the 1841 census there is another Akrigg family living next door to Benjamin and Lydia - 20 year old Thomas with Sarah 25 and 7 month old Robert and 5 houses before there is a Metcalfe family - Richard Metcalfe (70), Ann (40), Anthony (10), Peggy (8), Martha (6), Rachael (4), Jane (1) and John (45) - I would think that it is likely that Ann and John are Husband & wife and the children are their's - But could they be relatives and Richard maybe Lydia's father? Who knows? But perhaps worth keeping him in mind as you search further
Also have you heard of the Metcalfe Society one of the largest one-name study groups - they may have some answers if the parish registers don't!

Good Luck
Hi Geoff
I have trawled through the Aysgarth and Askrigg PR several times and although there are many Metcalfes I cannot find one Lydia. Could she perhaps have had another Christian name or perhaps they were Quakers or RC. Sorry not to have been of any help but please let me know if I can assist you with anything else.
Good luck with your search.
best wishes
Maggie
