Hi David
Hope this is still open. I am trying to trace any info on my g grandfather.
Details from the 1901 census as follows:
Frederick Thomas GREGORY, c1878 Salisbury - parents: Henry Hansford GREGORY c1856. Master Mariner, born Southampton., Annie (possibly Cross) born Bishopstone C1858.
Siblings: Charles GREGORY, C1880 Salisbury
Amy (amelia) GREGORY, C1882 Salisbury
William GREGORY, C1884 Salisbury
Sorry this info is a bit vague, was always under the impression that the family came from Southampton. Can find no trace of the childrens births other than 1901 census and submitted entries in Familysearch.
Kind regards. Libby
Hi Libby
I can't find Annie baptised on Bishopstone PRs
However there is an Annie Lucy Cross on IGI baptised at St Luke Southampton
17/10/1858 - parents James Cross and Fanny (Fanny Martha Jordan) who were wed in 1846. (also IGI)
Also a birth reg on BMD of Annie Lucy Cross (Southampton 2c/5 Q4 1858)
Also their marriage 1878 Southampton ( 2c/53 ) (BMD)
Do you know Henry Hansford Gregory's parents?*
I cannot trace birth registrations of Charles, Amy or William![]()
*There is also a marriage reg in Dorchester 8/95 in Q4 1850 between
George John Gregory and Eliza Handsford - this may be relevant (or a red herring)
Good luck with your search

Hi David
Many thanks for such a quick reply.
Had found the marriage for Henry & Annie in 1878 and have sent off for the cert., hopefully it will prove/disprove that it's my Henry Gregory. Also seen the baptism for Annie and her parents marriage in Southampton.
Also awaiting the marriage cert for Frederick (ggrandfather) & Margaret Cowan in 1902 plus birth cert for Henry Hansford Gregory in Sep q 1905.
Also intend sending off for the Will of Amelia Gregory who died in the 1950's to see if this will shed some light on her parents.
Henry Hansford Gregorys parents were, William H Raggert GREGORY and Harriet Page, have traced them plus Henry siblings through the Census until their deaths. No sign of Henry or his family living with any of them.
Once again many thanks for your time.

Hi Davidii
I visited Bishopstone churchyard last Saturday and have now returned home to Australia. I found a couple of headstones for my ancestors named Hewitt (Hewett) but was unable to decipher the inscriptions in the time I had available.
Could you please check the registers for the name Hewett/Hewitt/Ewitt
I think that's a big ask but the associated names are:
MOXON, BRADLEY, PHILLIPS, BATCHELOR
Many thanks (in advance)
Liz

The reference to "woollens only" was a law passed to protect/enhance the waning wool trade.
I'll try to link the Name Hewett with the other names you mentioned, from the marriage register.

Thank you so much David. Your help has progressed my research significantly and I am most grateful.
Now I have to file all the information because I'm sure that entries of no interest to me at the moment may become important as I sort through all the available information.
Cheers
Liz
Hi David
You tried a look up for me in Oct 2007 with no success. I have recently discovered that the people in question were not named Gregory at all.
Would be grateful if you could find any info on the following:
Annie/Elizabeth/Bessie Shergold, C1859 (my gg grandmother). Parents William and Kezia.
Albert/Alfred/Frederick Shergold,C1877. Son of Annie above.
Charles h Richens/Richons,Ritchens. C1959. Also son of Annie Shergold
Emilie/Emmie/Amy Richens/Richons/Ritchens. C1881. Daughter of Annie above.
All three children were baptised in June 1882 at St. Martins.
William Richens (etc) C1884
This could have been in Highworth. Sorry, my geography is not so good.
Annie married John Henry Richens in Alderbury, June 1879.
Sorry this is so vague, this is a complete new area of search for me as Annie supposedly married my GG Grandfather in 1882,
Many thanks.
