1901 & 1911 Census for Canada availabe for lookups. Please give as much info as possible
Hi Starlight is the offer still on i am looking for a William Buckland born c1884 Gloucestershire whom we believe moved to Canada after 1901 census and signed up with a canadian force to serve in ww1 in france. I do belong to Ancestry and just tried to get on it myself but it says i have to pay.
thanks for any help i have asked Gillian also for a look up on passenger list she is offering on findmypast.
thanks
Cher
Hi Cher,
There are 3 William Buckland's born in England, the nearest by date being born c1887. Unfortunatly I cannot read his occupation. However he is nephew to the head of house, the rest of the family also being born in England. Do the surnames Wilson, Haines and Matthews mean anything to you ?
Hi Starllight no none of the names mean anything to me, thank you for trying, it is only the memories of a cousin in his 80,s that we are going on.
thanks again
cher
Hi Starlight,
I have tried searching for my BURNETT/KEILL ancestors in the 1911 Census for Canada with no success. The sites I've used are:
Ancestry.com (paid subscription)
Automated Genealogy
Census of Canada, 1911
I have tried every variation I can think of. Searching various last names:
Barnett, Brunett, etc.
Keil, Heil, Kiel, etc.
I have tried in Ancestry to search by given names, dates of birth, etc.
I've even gone through the census for the area I am almost 100% certain they would have been enumerated under. I figure, either I'm just missing something (totally possible), their names were so difficult to read and have been transcribed where I can't find them, or they went on holiday and were not available for the census (unlikely).
Here are the details:
Elizabeth KEILL (possibly listed under her first married name BURNETT?)
b. 15 November 1839, Wester Craigie, Belhelvie, Scotland
Came to Canada around 1872 with her first husband, George BURNETT
I have found her (and her children) in the 1881, 1891, 1901 censuses living in Sooke, B.C.
I also can't seem to find two of her children:
1. George BURNETT
b. 20 Aug 1873, Victoria, B.C.
George never married and was a farmer.
2. William James BURNETT
b. 1 Mar 1875, Victoria, B.C.
In 1911 William was single, possibly listed as a stage driver or farmer.
If you can helf me find these I would be eternally grateful!
Cheers,
ElizaJo
Hi Starlight
Is Richard Free GODWIN listed in the 1911 census. He was born in England in 1887
Thanks jane
Hi ElizaJo,
Sorry, I have had no luck. I can't find Elizabeth in the death index either.
Hi Jane,
Sorry no luck. Do you know that he went to Canada as a possible one is still in England in 1901 ?
Hi Starlight
Richard Free Godwin WAS still at boarding school in England in 1901 and I am not sure when he went to Canada.
He married there in 1914 but had been to North America earlier as in April 1912 when returning to UK passed the Titanic !
Thanks Jane

Thanks for looking! I have Elizabeth's death registration, but the 1911 census is bringing me to tears. Where are they? *Sigh*
Thanks again!
