Hi
Could you find the baptism of Joshua Betts (or Bates) in Chatham,Kent. He married in West Peckam in 1794 so presume he would have been born about 1770. Children born in Teston & 2 of those married in Aylesford. Thanks Kerri |

Hello from NZ,
Thanks for the offer. What a great forum this is! Would you mind seeing if you can find the christening of Emma Still, c1830 - on the censuses her birthplace is Blackheath, Kent, and on one occasion it is Orpington, Kent. On her marriage cert in 1857 her father is William Still, waiter. I found a christening on familysearch.org for Emma Still, daughter of William Still and Sarah 28 Aug 1831, St Luke Chelsea (less than 3m from Blackheath). [I believe he may be the William Still who married Sarah Bellingham in 1818, Chatham, Kent, who is William Richard Palmer Still 1798, West Malling, Kent] I haven't managed to find Emma for certain on the 1841 or 1851 censuses. Still is one of those surnames frequently mistranscribed. I may have found Emma as Emma Hill on the 1841 census, living in the hundred of Blackheath, Kent, registration district Greenwich. She appears to have no other family with her. Emma's children and descendants were very much a military family, most of the men fought, leading me to think that perhaps Emma's father was in the navy at one point. If he is the same William Still who married Sarah in Chatham 1818, then perhaps! I say all this as I'm not sure where in Kent he and his daughter Emma may be found. Any help, greatly appreciated. thanks |
