Hi, Gillian,
I've just joined this site having seen your thread - thought I was the only person interested in Kingswinford! I haven't got a specific question for you at the moment - but would like to know where the area records are viewable? would they be at the Dudley record office? You can tell I'm quite new to this. Hello LizP,
The parish registers for Kingswinford are held at Dudley Archives & Local History Service, web site: www.dudley.gov.uk/archives You can also try this web site (records are from 1837 when civil registration began): www.bmsgh.org which is brilliant, especially the marriages as it gives the name of bride and groom, year and church where the marriage took place. If the marriage took place in the Dudley Registration District you can send off to the Archives for a photocopy of the marriage entry which is cheaper than sending off to the Register Office. If you do send off to the Archives, don't forget to give them the reference number. Hope this helps Notebook |

Hi Gillian
I've reached a dead end with Joseph Padbury and his wife, Maria (possibly either Wharton/Worton or Chambers). Both were born around 1811 and married before 1835. I'd be really grateful if you had any info on their marriage, particularly if you could shed any light on their parents. Thank you very, very much! Hello Gillian
Very kind of you to offer information from Kingswinford - I try to 'do my bit' by transcribing for FreeBMD. I have a record in the IGI showing what appears to be my GGG Grandfather Charles Male with a baptism date of 19th June 1803 and parents Richard and Ann. I was wondering if the maiden name for Ann was shown please or any other pertinent details. Charles married approx. 1825 to a Sarah whose maiden name I gleaned from a later daughter's cetrtificate as Such. Although in Sarah's census details she came from Madeley in Shropshire (not Staffordshire), I wonder if the marriage took place in Kingswinford - as some of the children of Charles and Sarah appear to have been born there or in Brierley Hill. Anything you can offer on Kingswinford and this batch of Males would be very much appreciated. Many thanks for your time. Kind Regards - Dave |

Hi Dave - I think we all owe a big debt to FreeBMD transcribers!
I can't be much help with Charles I'm afraid - there is no additional information on his birth record. And the 1825 marriage didn't take place in Kingswinford - there are a number of Males marrying there at the time but not Charles. I do some look-ups at the SoG Library - see my thread on this board. If you check their catalogue and they have anywhere else you would like me to look for the marriage let me know GIllian |

Many thanks Gillian for taking the time and effort to look for me. At least it appears that the Family Search GRI record is accurate, which is not always the case from my experience.
I always thought Male was an unusual surname, but it appears to be very common in the Staffordshire area and particularly around Kingswinford and Brierley Hill. I'll take a look at your thread SoG - thank you for your offer - I may come back to you if I see anything that may help. Kind Regards - Dave |
