I have an index to Wiltshire Broughton Gifford parish registers. I am happy to do look ups - please post as much detail as possible. Please be prepared to wait - I will do them as soon as I can but I may take up to 2 weeks.

    Default Broughton Gifford

I am trying to trace the background of Mary Keen who was born in Broughton Gifford in 1807. I believe her father may have been William Keen and her mother's name was possibly Sarah. I further believe she was married in Broughton Gifford to Benjamin Jefferies in 1839 and I am also trying to trace this man. If you can give me any informaiton on the family I would be most grateful. Many thanks

The baptism you mention is on LDS site 11th Jan 1807, parents William and Sarah.
At the marriage 18 March 1839 the bride was 32 and single. The Groom was a widower aged 46. M39066-2
It seems Mary had a son John Keen in 1832.
Benjamin was born in Bulkington Wilts in 1794 and his parents were Benjamin Jeffries and Ann Gaisford (married at keevil Wilts in 1789).
And that Benjamin's father was a Benjamin Jeffris bap 13 Nov 1760 Hillmarton Wilts whose parents were Edward jeffris and Amy(Eamy).

There is something odd; there is a baptism on 22 April 1832 of a John Keen, mother Mary Keen at Broughton Gifford but there is also a baptism for a John Keene on 22 April 1832 in West Horsley Surrey, parents Benjamin Keene and Mary

I could indeed. LDS is excellent!. It's url is familysearch.org. It has millions of baptisms/marriages etc( gathered over many years by the Latter Day Saints church) but sometimes you need to try a variety of ways of searching to find what you wnat. Just put a name in the search box and see what comes up.
They had an old way of searching too and that is still available but scroll down to very bottom of screen to find it in tiny letters on the right. Sometimes that brings up a result not found on it's new site. Try all combinations.Anything else you need just ask.

Hi, I'm looking for any bdms for the Mortimer family in Broughton Gifford. I've gone back to Samuel Mortimer, born in 1670, who married Martha Newman, of Seend at that place. I've found 3 children all supposedly born in BG, these are Sarah born 1706, Samuel, born 1709 and Joseph born 1716. As there's a big gap I'm wondering if they had more children whilst living in BG. I'd be very grateful if you could look them up to find baptisms, marriages & burials for this family, and if possible, Samuel's ancestors. Thank you very much, Carol

    Hallo Caroljo,

It is a while since Gillian , who originally offered Broughton Gifford look-ups was on AA.

I had a quick look on Free REg which now has transcribed the Broughton registers . If you are not familiar with Free Reg just Google it and on the site click search then fill iin relevant details(County and place.(takes a while as it scrolls down). Then if you just put surname in and no dates you should get the results you want. I did see the Samuel bap 1709 there, son of Samuel- so the rest are possibly there too. Good Luck!
Also there are many Mortimers in Broughton Gifford on the LDS site(family search) site. You seem to have got a good long way back anyway and will know best who fits where.
Have a look and see if Seend is on Free Reg too(I forgot to look) as some may be christened at Seend.

    Post Broughton Gifford

I have an ancestor Robert Gunning/(or maybe Gennings) who according to the 1851 census was born in this village - can you give me any information?
    Many thanks
