Hi Tony
I have trawled through the Askrigg and Aysgarth records several times and cannot find a birth of a Mary Turner. I have looked for a Mary Turner, a Mary Metcalf and a Mary Turner Metcalfe - nothing. The only Mary Metcalfe I could find was one bap 8th July 1744 the illegitimate daughter of a Jane Metcalfe of Bainbridge, but this is simply clutching at straws.

I did find a Thomas Metcalfe bap 9th June 1720 s/o Edward Metcalfe a householder Askrigg, but at this stage it is not much help is it?

One theory I have is that Mary Turner may be the illegitimate daughter of a Miss Turner and Thomas Metcalfe.

Sorry I cannot find anything more useful for you. Good luck.
regards
Maggie

I have just found some Grinton parish records on Ancestry, have only had a cursory look at them so far but did see the following info which may or may not be of use sometime to you.

Ann d/o Edward Kearton bap 24th April 1743 Whiteyside
Mary d/o Robert Birbeck bap 3rd June 1744 Feetholm
Thomas Turner married Elizabeth Metcalfe 28th May 1747 Grinton
James Birbeck married Ann Garth 10th April 1751 Grinton
Mary w/o Thomas Birbeck burial 2nd July 1751 Kearton
William Slack married Elizabeth Kearton 31st March 1752 Grinton
John s/o James and Ann Birbeck bap 24th Sept 1752 Grinton

If I find any more I will send you a message.
regards
Maggie

The PR records for Aysgarth and Askrigg don't cover the Grinton area which I think comes under the Muker area. The only record for a John Hunter I could find was one baptised 3 July 1803 son of Edward Hunter Askrigg. Having seen Slizzy's reply I thinks she might be on the right track.
Good luck
Maggie

I am trying to trace the parents of John Turner from Reeth N Yorks, John was married to Mary Close, they lived in the Reeth area around 1800.

I have had a cursory look at both Aysgarth and Askrigg PR and have not found any of your Inchbolds (all spelling variations) I also looked on Free BMD and there are none on there, Scarborough seems to be a popular place for Inchbolds etc. If you can give me some names and dates I will have another look on the PR to make sure I have not missed any.
Good luck

Maggie
